***New updated cover***

Freed from the clutches of her cruel, traitorous mother and impostor husband, Lady Camden wants to rebuild her fractured life. But the years of terror and pain she endured at their hands continue to grip her heart in an iron vice. Refusing to stray from the refuge of her country estate, Kate tentatively agrees to an unusual alliance with the new Lord Camden, being mindful to keep her trust, and her heart, firmly safeguarded.

Adrien, Earl of Camden, had lost everything he held dear while working undercover in France as an agent of the Crown, known only as Hawk. Now an earl, he wants only to repair his tattered, lonely life. His efforts are interrupted, however, when he is called to accept another assignment: Stop French spies from passing a bill in Parliament that will eliminate British aid in the war against Napoleon.

When Kate's past pulls her into a web of treachery and deceit, a life she is wholly unprepared for, Adrien must use any means necessary to stop the French spies from succeeding in their evil designs and keep her safe. When the truth is finally revealed, will Lady Camden be strong enough to seize her own future and happiness, or will her heart be too shattered to ever love a spy?

Excellent Read, The virtual voice is okay!

I love this author and her books. I am thankful she lets us listen for free.

Enjoyed story

Although the story was engaging, the narration is horrible and distracting. Very monotone, mispronounced words really are a problem.

Virtual Voice isn't up to snuff

While Virtual Voice is pretty good, there isn't enough inflection. Also, it mispronounces works like saying modest instead of modiste. Would much prefer a real actor or actress.

Book 3 in series, Same plot, Intriguing Details

Spoiler Alert: I have read 3 books in the series now and all have this same foundational plot: insecure woman with trust issues wanting to be strong, skeptical man changes opinion because of love, emotional decision to leave refuge only to get kidnapped, save damsel in distress, wedding plus cliffhanger.

Nevertheless, because the books' characters intermingle in a progressive series plot, the new details found in each individual book have kept me completely engaged. I have enough imagination to get over the flat AI reading because the series plot is so well executed.

Hate virtual voice!

I love this series. I initially read it on Kindle a couple of years ago, and wanted to get audio versions, and was bummed to find audio was not available. I occasionally check and was excited to see the series is FINALLY available in audio format. Unfortunately, it’s disappointing that it’s narrated by virtual voice. I still love the book and characters, but this series could be so much better with a great narrator. There is a lot of affection and banter between all of the characters throughout the series, and the virtual voice really does not do it justice. I’ve enjoyed revisiting the series, but would never recommend these audio books as great finds, solely because of virtual voice. I would absolutely rather pay for an actual narrator than get these free with virtual voice.
