Publisher's summary

Tilted Crown is a collection of poetry about inspiring, motivating, love, and loss. These poems will help you find the beauty within yourself and free you from any fears. Most women know the heartache of love, but do they also know the setback in business? Success forms in all aspects of life friendships, business, and independence. Most poems in Tilted Crown are raw unfiltered, uncensored and simple. The deepest ones are empty and unfinished. The emotions are undefined.

Not your average book of poetry

When I saw this was a book of poetry, I almost didn’t pick it up. That would have been a mistake. This isn’t your mama’s poetry, that’s for sure.

Not every action needs a reaction

I knew nothing about the poet, wanting to go in blind.

This is raw, honest, unflinching, and current. Oh, so very topical. There are the cultural references such as YouTube and social media. About the fact women are now becoming entrepreneurs and although that sounds good, the work is continuous and the rewards hard-won. The language is plain and easy to understand, which made the experience far more immediate for me. I wasn’t lost in trying to understand, instead it was in my face in a good way.

I did sneak over to Amazon to see the preview of the book to see what the poems looked like on the page. I was impressed because they were exactly as I pictured which, to me, means Jason Frazier did an excellent job.

Clarity comes from within.
Pure and firm.

I was intrigued that S.A. chose a male narrator for such a feminist and female-driven work. I love Jason Frazier, and he performed unflinchingly, discussing female bodily functions, female experiences, fears, and endurances. Don’t get me wrong, many of these experiences are universal – unrequited love, wanting to make a difference in the community, and the desire to succeed. But there is one experience that only a woman can experience, and it broke my heart. Visceral. Painful. Heartfelt. Live. Life.

I’m guessing there was a specific reason the poet chose a male narrator. To me, it was a brilliant choice because women don’t live in a vacuum. We are surrounded by men, affected by their behavior. They can share in our joys or be the reason for our misery. We can try to avoid the pain, but it is always there. Being single doesn’t protect us, neither does being in a relationship. The narrator in this poem is stuck somewhere in between.

I have listened to other audiobooks by Jason Frazier and plan to listen to more. I also hope to hear more poems from S.A. because, as she says in her final poem:

Hustle her
Hustle hard girl
Undefeated in lots of areas
Satisfied to be a boss
The head bitch in charge
Loving every dream that comes true
Everything I want, I will get
Humble for my blessings
Every girl must win
Rewards are much greater

The Narrators Voice made this book a pleasure!

These poems were very relatable. I love the switch between love, loss, and success.
