Publisher's summary

Number-one New York Times best-seller.

New enemies rise and desire burns in the latest thrilling novel of the paranormal romance series the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

Sola Morte, former cat burglar and safecracker, has given up her old life on the wrong side of the law. On the run from a drug lord’s family, she is lying low far from Caldwell, keeping her nose clean and her beloved grandmother safe. Her heart, though, is back up North, with the only man who has ever gotten through her defenses: Assail, son of Assail, who never meant to fall in love - and certainly not with a human woman. But they have no future, and not just because she doesn’t know he is a vampire, but because he is not about to stop dealing arms to the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

Fate, however, has other plans for them. When Assail falls into a coma and lingers on the verge of death, his cousins seek out Sola and beg her to give him a reason to live. The last thing she wants is a return to her past, but how can she leave him to die?

As a lethal new enemy of the vampires shows its face and the Brotherhood needs Assail back on his feet, Sola finds herself not only a target, but a mission-critical force in a war she doesn’t understand. And when Assail’s truth comes out, will she run from the horror...or follow her heart into the arms of the male who loves her more than life itself?

Good stuff

Not quite a 5 but almost. She left tails as she's apt to do but not huge ones more like teases for the next books. I've always like Asail and Marisal. Also very fond of Marisal's Vovo and the cousins. Parts of this felt like set up but it was still interesting enough to not make it feel boring. All in all I liked it quite a bit.

Nice to see V and Doc Jane as well.

Also there was one scene with the brothers that made me laugh so hard I had tears. OMG those men are such a hoot some times.

As always with this series, Jim Frangione is so good I'd be upset if I had to read a copy and couldn't listen. He really enhances the story.

Another home run

There’s nothing that I didn’t like in this book! JR Ward is just perfection in all of the BDB books so I’m not surprised that I couldn’t quit listening! I love that the brotherhood was front and center again. Now that they have a new enemy we are guaranteed more books to come! Woop Woop!

5/5--YES--A MUST READ!

Ms. J. R. Ward, I read all your series, But the Black Dagger Brotherhood is my favorite.

Asail is the main focus character in this book. It is good to see him back after he's been out on a medical leave, you might say. The Brotherhood has a new foe to fight--one they are trying to explain--never dealt with before now. There is romance, battles, and so much going on from start to finish you will not want to put "The Thief" down. Enjoy--I Did (reading it a second time now)

BTW---GRANDMA's ARE GREAT!

Jim Frangione is excellent as always--applause to you.
