In this generation-defining self-help guide, a superstar blogger cuts through the crap to show us how to stop trying to be ""positive"" all the time so that we can truly become better, happier people.

For decades, we’ve been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. ""F**k positivity,"" Mark Manson says. ""Let’s be honest, shit is f**ked and we have to live with it."" In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn’t sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is—a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is his antidote to the coddling, let’s-all-feel-good mindset that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Manson makes the argument, backed both by academic research and well-timed poop jokes, that improving our lives hinges not on our ability to turn lemons into lemonade, but on learning to stomach lemons better. Human beings are flawed and limited—""not everybody can be extraordinary, there are winners and losers in society, and some of it is not fair or your fault."" Manson advises us to get to know our limitations and accept them. Once we embrace our fears, faults, and uncertainties, once we stop running and avoiding and start confronting painful truths, we can begin to find the courage, perseverance, honesty, responsibility, curiosity, and forgiveness we seek.

There are only so many things we can give a f**k about so we need to figure out which ones really matter, Manson makes clear. While money is nice, caring about what you do with your life is better, because true wealth is about experience. A much-needed grab-you-by-the-shoulders-and-look-you-in-the-eye moment of real-talk, filled with entertaining stories and profane, ruthless humor, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is a refreshing slap for a generation to help them lead contented, grounded lives.

Where does The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have been transitioning out of being born Mormonism which included serving 2 years as a full time non-paid missionary, 10 percent of my money, and 30 years of active church attendance. Since leaving I have felt bitter and have spent more of my time studying about it and thinking about it than I ever did in it. Since leaving Mormonism is much like leaving any cult, you are constantly contacted my friends and neighbors trying to save your soul and get you back in. When you don't listen you loose friends and family. This book helped me understand that my life is too short to give any more fucks to an organization that I do not respect nor believe in nor give Fucks to people who do not truly care about me. Giving more fucks to it will never be healthy for me nor will it lead to anything meaningful. It has helped to think about my life in several different lights. It's cheesy to say but it really was life changing.

What did you like best about this story?

The profanity.

What does Roger Wayne bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I do not read book. With my schedule and how my brain works, I get way more out of audio books.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Change is as simple about changing where you give you Fucks.

Helped with my transition out of a cult religion

as you can probably guess, there are lots of FBombs but the message of the book can be life changing if you keep your mind open. I will recommend this to everyone I know.

The first 3 to 4 chapters were pretty engaging and made good points to reference and apply in some lights. But after that it was just rambling to me. But the narrator was awesome and that’s what keep me listening after chapter 4. Although it was still a struggle to pay attention and absorb the message because it was very redundant and draggy after that.
The book could have been shorter to get all its points across basically. But still good messages can be taken from it overall.

Good start but MEH finish
