Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things - a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: Instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others. After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk’s path to share his experience and wisdom with others.

Contemporary life provides us with infinite opportunities, along with endless temptations. We can eat whatever we want, whenever we want. We can buy goods and services for rapid delivery. But living in this 24/7 hyper-reality poses serious risks to our physical and mental states, our connections to others, and even to the world at large. Brain Wash builds from a simple premise: Our brains are being gravely manipulated, resulting in behaviors that leave us more lonely, anxious, depressed, distrustful, illness-prone, and overweight than ever before.

The benefits of restrictive diets like paleo and keto have been touted for more than a decade, but as renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, or "Dr. B", illuminates in this groundbreaking audiobook, the explosion of studies on the microbiome makes it abundantly clear that elimination diets are in fact hazardous to our health. What studies clearly now show - and what Dr. B preaches with his patients - is that gut health is the key to boosting our metabolism, balancing our hormones, and taming the inflammation that causes a host of diseases.

If only I could find a GP like this!
Dr. Rangan Chatterjee is clearly a man that cares for his patients and those sick and in need. There are many doctors like this but what sets him apart and puts him in an elite category is his openness to being incorrect in the past and acknowledging that he still has more to learn. My area of academic interest is Heuristics and Bias in decision making. Doctors, senior politicians and pilots regularly feature as being amongst the worst offenders, Dr. Rangan Chatterjee not only bucks that but turns it on its head. I honestly believe he is one of the good guys along with Dr. Jason Fung and Dr. Michael Mosley. I strongly recommend both of his books. and I would like to thank for writing them. Wishing my fellow readers/listeners the same positive experience that I had listening to this book.

I felt like he knew me/easy to understand
I will have to buy this book. There were so many times when I felt he knew me. The chapter on touch was extraordinary. I come from a family that does not hug or touch. I'm also the black sheep. I kept thinking Doctor Chatterjee knew my life story and was talking directly to me. I have to pay for a massage therapist to get what I need. And now I know touch is a necessity not an option for a physically and mentally well person. There is so much more in the book. This is the one to read/listen to. And it is now one of my top five favorite books. He is brilliant.

Whole book is like a summary of already well known stress reduction actions; author provided neither his own authentic insights, nor controversial thoughts. Therefore, it was boring to listen, i have learned nothing new. However, i hope there still be lots of people who will find this book useful.

Really thought provoking and easy to follow
I was worried that the audio version may be difficult to follow as I knew the book would be full of information. But the book really lends itself to the audio format and the narration by the author is absolutely pitch perfect. I would never describe myself as stressed but this book is really making me think about how life could be easier, more fun and generally more rewarding. It's real food for thought and I keep thinking about what I have heard. 2019 plans are definitely going to incorporate some/a lot of the messages and tips in the book. Highly recommend.

Absolutely fantastic book packed with hints and tips on how to reduce stress in different areas of your life - a holistic view. Nothing new if you’re into a healthy mindful life, but presented in very simple and achievable manner. This book is scientifically insightful and yet has easy, simple steps that are accessible and achievable for everyone to apply. I have never recommended a book to patients before but I am recommending this. I feel this is one book that needs to be re-read or listened to yearly to re-fire the concepts in our lives along with refining them. Dr Chatterjee is delightful to listen to as well as passionate about his written material and this comes through in his reading. Highly recommend.
