“Klassen expertly infuses her … inspirational tale with a gothic atmosphere, resulting in a sweetly intriguing romance worthy of Victoria Holt.” ( Booklist)

Gently Comforting

Speaker’s voice of characters calmed & relaxed me. Not too complex in story line so a good listen for diversion.

Another wonderful book!

Another wonderful book by Julie Klassen, beautifully narrated by Elizabeth Jasicki. Of the handful of novels I've listened to so far, this one kept me in the greatest suspense. Early on I thought I'd figured things out and that, momentarily, decreased some of the pleasure of listening.

That quickly turned around time and time again, until not until the final pages of the book was all revealed! The Silent Governess was not, however, only a suspenseful read, however; it was also filled with tenderness toward many of the characters (and sometimes fear), romance, sadness, love, and forgiveness.

Klassen's books never fail to uplift me and are a needed break at times from today's disturbing times. Many thanks to Ms. Klassen and her narrator for this gift.

Love of a adopted father

Great story of love and loyalties. Sometimes the things we see and think we know is not correct. When the truth comes out things turn out the way God intents for our lives. God always knows best.

Switching makes a difference

After listening to 24 novels by Hannah Howell over the last month and a half, I felt it was time to change authors even though I had thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Howell’s writing and Ms. Dawe’s performances. I chose this book by Julie Klassen and it definitely was a change. Ms. Klassen’s writing is also very good but totally different from Ms. Howell’s. It took me a little while to get used to her style and rhythm of the narrative. Once I got familiar with her style listening to her efforts was very enjoyable. The book is very long; over 50 chapters but the action, for the most part, keeps you interested in what is coming next. The only negative for me was that I was unsure for most of the book if Olivia was truly in love with Edward. It was obvious that she was interested in him but the author didn’t really discuss her true feelings for him. There are so many potential love interests around her like the reverend Mr. Tudwell, Felix, the Earl until you find out he thinks there is a different relationship between them, the groom, etc., that you start to wonder if she has serious feelings for Edward or not until the end. All the characters, although interesting, is what adds to the length of the story. Ms. Jasicki is very good and I would like to hear her again.

The Silent Governess

I enjoyed the book a lot. I like the fact that it did not have so much sex

Clean cozy writer

In "The Silent Governess" Klassen builds such wonderfully spirited and complex characters against the confusing quest to find out "who's out ypur daddy?"

Lovely Clean 19th Century English Romance

Although the main characters are predictably matched from the beginning, there are a few twists and unexpected turns in the storyline that keep the listener engaged and predicting. There are no gratuitous scenes that detract from the overall feel-good mood of this story. Moreover, the language is clean and wholesome. References to God and Christian principles are easily interwoven and nicely correspond to the moments in which they are found. The narrator has a lovely voice and portrays the characters with inflection and distinction. Well done.
