the writer is on point and I could not stop listening to the book so good. it a must read

Really great one. Pace is masterful.

This one feels like it will/ should get turned into a movie/ miniseries. Really masterful world building and character building. The best part of the whole story is how the story establishes tension, and then holds onto it throughout. The writer didn’t waste very many words with this one. There is a classic feel to overall story but writer is able to hide their secrets well inside of that framework.

The narrator did absolutely great

This book was extremely well written and the story flowed well. The characters, the setting, the mystery. It all felt real and grounded, and there was never a dull moment.

And the narrator brought it to life! The voices, the accents, and his general narration captured everything to a T.

Definitely will reread this someday.

This book is so full of twists and turns you’ll find yourself steeling away just to read the next page. Quite literally one of the best books I’ve ever read. I can’t wait to read the next book this author has for us!!

A perfect blend

This was the perfect recipe of historical fiction, mythology, and folk horror with the talent to cook it into something awesome. Great character development, vivid settings and imagery, and I loved the WWI combat parts. It's hard to find good horror, but Hoover is at the top of my list these days. Definitely check out his other work if you enjoyed this one.
