Publisher's summary

In a feat of virtuoso storytelling, Anne Rice unleashes Akasha, the queen of the damned, who has risen from a six-thousand-year sleep to let loose the powers of the night. Akasha has a marvelously devious plan to “save” mankind and destroy the vampire Lestat—in this extraordinarily sensual novel of the complex, erotic, electrifying world of the undead.

“Mesmerizing... a wonderful web of dark-side mythology.” (San Francisco Chronicle)

“With The Queen of the Damned, Anne Rice has created universes within universes, traveling back in time as far as ancient, pre-pyramidic Egypt and journeying from the frozen mountain peaks of Nepal to the crowded, sweating streets of southern Florida.” (Los Angeles Times)

“Imaginative... intelligently written... This is popular fiction of the highest order.” (USA Today)

Fantastic performer

The narrator does an excellent job of capturing the dark, exotic ennui of Anne Rice's vampires without being cheesy. The plot struggles to get going from time to time as Rice lingers on her vampire's side stories in an almost fan-fic fashion, but it always picks up again. A few quotable nuggets of philosophy are to be found as well. Lovely to listen to!

Great story!

What did you like best about this story?

I like the point of view from Akasha. She seems like a girl who got too much power too young and became a tyrant albeit with good intentions.

Good book in the series!

This was a good book, but a bit slow in places for me compared to the last few Ann Rice books. A must listen to if you're listening to al the Vampire books- it fills in all the gaps. Well read and very good overall book!

Classic Gothic Fantasy Novel

The Queen of the Damned is still one of my favorite novels in the the Vampire Chronicles. The narrator was amazing and did a great job speaking in different tones for the many different characters in this novel. A must read/ listen! And an even better re-red/ listen!

Supernatural creatures

I have always loved supernatural creatures. My first ever movie I watched was Queen of the Damned, starring Aaliyah, Rest In Peace. When I found out the book was based off of the books, I just had to read it. I hated reading, but reading about vampires, my favorite supernatural creatures, written by Anne Rice, I felt great.

Reading, MAGIC. Listening, HYPNOTIZED!

The way that Simon reads gets me completely lost inside the story. I read these books in high school 15 years ago. I'm fully hooked on the unabridged Audio versions. I LOVE that Simon is the same one reading these books too, somehow that makes them feel more real, being read the sam by the same person, in the same voices of the characters. I'm addicted and can't wait to finish so I can start them again!

Spoiled for me

I thoroughly enjoyed the first 2 books in this series. What the heck happened to book 3?? I was completely turned off by every chapter beginning with quotes from Stan Rice’s works. Let him print and publish his own stories not gain an audience by barging in on his wife’s story. It broke the continuity and was completely distracting and annoying. Is this the only way he can garner attention to his inferior literature. Shame on Audible for not creating what would have been a completely enjoyable experience. I felt cheated. If I wanted to read Stan Rice I would have purchased Stan Rice. I purchased “Queen of the Damned” by Ann Rice. Nowhere did I see this book was co-authored to include a preface to each and every chapter by her husband. His writing completely ruined the continuity of the novel. I view this as a cheap trick to promote his work, which I don’t even like.

Vampires never die. Neither will this classic!

Long before certain shiny vampires, there was Lestat. Picking right off from the last cliffhanger, our hero is now telling what happened next. Told by various immortals, the story is breathtaking and beautifully told.

As you reach the final page you will smile knowing that not only is our hero immortal, the stories will continue onward. Highly recommend it!

Amazing

so much better than the movie. Simons voice, however, puts me to sleep sometimes. other than that, he is still amazing.
