So disappointing if you've read it in full print.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I honestly don't know anyone who would prefer this version of a classic story.

Would you be willing to try another book from Anne Rice? Why or why not?

I love Anne Rice, but I have learned my lesson and will not be purchasing abridged versions, nor those narrated by Michael York in the future.

How could the performance have been better?

Lose the music, lose the narrator (the narrator of the Vampire series would've been a better choice), and look more closely at how the editing and cutting of the original story affects how the final version feels. This felt too choppy, too much cut out that really did not allow you to connect with the story as fully as you'd want. And the narration felt more like the narrator was reading a children's bedtime story. It was nearly painful to listen to, and if I had another book ready on my queue while at work I would've played it instead.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not the way it was performed and cut. No.

Any additional comments?

I was so very much looking forward to listening to this book, I've read and reread it in print for years and years and was looking forward to having the characters "come to life", instead I feel as if someone were reading me a poorly written fan fiction version of one of my favorite stories.

Abridged is bad

I own a hard copy of this book and the Abridged version does it no justice. The narrator was just okay but the editing was awful. I recommend buying the actual book, this audible is bad.

Whole chapters left out!

There are gaping holes in the narration. I haven’t read this book in a while and I thought 3 hours seemed kind of short. They left out whole chapters and it’s horrible. I hope they didn’t do that for the long awaited sequel. Don’t buy if you’re a fan of the story.

Not the full story

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I want a full edition of the book. The book itself is one of my all time favorites but the abridged version is so short you loose so much of it.

Would you ever listen to anything by Anne Rice again?

Yes

Not good at all

This was my favorite book, I've had at least 3 paperback copies that I have worn out! I was very excited to have it on my phone, at my fingertips.... then it wouldn't download, I re-downloaded it several times, even going so far as to delete the app and re-install and it wouldn't work. Finally customer service was able to get it to play.... and what a disappointment. It was the 'abridged' version (unabriged not available) and it bounced around and cut out so much that the story didn't make any sense- AND I KNOW THE STORY! I feel bad for anyone who downloads this book and doesn't know the 'true' Anne Rice book. Don't waste your credits on this one like I did.

Salacious cuts

Where does The Mummy or Ramses the Damned rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The narration by Michael York is outstanding.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It was difficult to make sense of the story because of the small amount of the original text used.

Have you listened to any of Michael York’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. But I'd be interested to listen to further books by him.

If you could take any character from The Mummy or Ramses the Damned out to dinner, who would it be and why?

No brainer. Ramses.

Any additional comments?

The music was sometimes distracting.

Mr York - GREAT - The script - BAD

I have previously read this as a book and bought this version to listen to on a long drive. I have to say, this was disappointing. The first part of the recording was reasonable in regards to the book, but the last part of the recording strayed so far from the book that the entire meaning was lost for the most part.

Michael York is FANTASTIC as a reader and his voice is capable of changing to match the characters he is speaking for. He is the only real plus for this recording.

disappointed

didn't realise it was the abridge version, I would not have bothered if I had, I know Anne Rice can go into micro details of histories etc but thats what I like about her books, you get the full picture which enrich the journey, so if you are like me and want every detail then don't buy this book, if you are a quick reader, want the journey over fast then fine, buy this book but I think you will be left wanting more and feeling like you missed out on something very exciting

Some missing chapters

A pity the whole book was not here. I enjoyed this book originally in paperback and would like a kindle version too and thought the audio book seemed a good compromise. Not so glad now. Just glad it was purchased using one of my credits.
