Publisher's summary

Viqui Litman authors a sassy, hilarious novel of four Texan women in The Ladies Farm. Upbeat and intelligent, Litman’s story is a rollicking good time from beginning to end.

When four divorced and widowed friends, Pauline, Della, Kat and Rita, decide to open a retreat especially for women who just need to get away from it all, The Ladies Farm is born. Situated beside a lazy river in the idyllic location of Sydonia, Texas, The Ladies Farm seems poised for great success. Then one day Barbara Morrison, the rich widow of Della’s secret lover, arrives in her bright red T-Bird--and she’s brought a whole load of trouble with her.

Sometimes brazen, sometimes sweet, Viqui Litman’s story is an honest and true-to-life portrait of the bonds among four middle-aged women. Narrator Cynthia Darlow’s voice provides listeners with the perfect accent.

Pedestrian, disappointing

Would you try another book from Viqui Litman and/or Cynthia Darlow?

No. This is the kind of writing you find in supermarket magazines for women. I have no interest in these types of 'bitchy' relationships involving unlikable females.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Ken Follett - dependably excellent.

Would you be willing to try another one of Cynthia Darlow’s performances?

Not really. I wasn't wild about her voice.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment, annoyance.

Any additional comments?

Buying this was a major fail!

Steel Magnolias Meet the Yellow Rose(s) of Texas

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The storyline is simple, but the characters become so real that you laugh, cry and love along with them.

What other book might you compare The Ladies Farm to and why?

Books by Dixie Cash come to mind...humor, a bit of mystery, romance and of course, the Texas accents!

Have you listened to any of Cynthia Darlow’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. But she is very good.

If you could rename The Ladies Farm, what would you call it?

As in my headline, Steel Magnolias Meet the Yellow Rose(s) of Texas.

Any additional comments?

I just wanted to hear more of her books. There are no more available. I ended up buying them in paperback from Amazon. However, that beautiful Texas drawl needs to be listened to and visually cannot be appreciated.
