Publisher's Summary

Fresh from his success with the search and rescue of the USS Omega Deep, Sam Reilly was looking forward to some much-needed rest. Not everyone had the same idea though.

When a panicked man with purple eyes grabs him at gunpoint and takes him hostage, Sam knows that this is more than a mere ransom opportunity; this man is scared of something....

And Sam is going to have to find what it is if he wants to get out of this alive.

The Series Takes a Turn, But Worth Listening

OK, this is number 13 in the series, so it takes a little turn from what you have come to expect. It's a good story, just doesn't follow the rest.

But, for those of you who have been listening and are checking the reviews to see if you want to listen or not, keep listening to the series. The Master Builder's have popped up again. This time, just when Sam decides to take a break from his adventures, he gets to do that, but not the way he planned. Sam is taken hostage by a man with purple eyes. For those of you who have been listening, you know what that means.

I won't spoil the story any further, just listen and enjoy!

Not as good as the rest

While this was still a good story, it seemed like it was just designed to introduce an important new character. Pleanty of the thrills and twists you have come to expect from a Sam Reilly book. But it was just missing something.

Action Packed!

So awesome! I loved the narrator, he gives so much life to the characters and story. I laughed out loud at the parts where Sam Reilly is in yet another disaster situation, and you can hear the narrator catching just the right inflections while Sam just grits his teeth, powers through, and makes wry comments. Christopher Cartwright is a genius at weaving history, present day, and future technology into an unbelieveble and exciting story, that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I don’t know how he comes up with so much new material. Every story is a new adventure, I totally lose myself in them!

Very very good

I found this out of your book to be a very very good lesson. It has a great combination of mystery, suspense and drama. The narrator does a wonderful job reading each character.

So enjoyable

The Holy Grail, my thirteenth read from author Christopher Cartwright & the thirteenth book in the highly entertaining Sam Reilly series. This book takes a new turn in the on-going theme of the master builders. Well-written thriller with captivating & well-developed main characters. Reminds me of Dan Brown’s writing. These books have been a rollicking adventure & I’ll be reading more by this author as I already own more books in the series. Narrator David Gilmore’s narration added to the book’s enjoyment. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Pretty Exciting - just listen and don’t over it!

3.5, but not quite a 4.

I liked this book more than ironclad. The story was interesting, and the characters were fun, although they all seemed to share the same personality and sense of humour.

I don’t understand how or why there is ‘recent’ script on cave walls below sea level (submerged hundreds or so years ago) for part of the crew to discover the secret or key to the mystery.

It provides an exciting adventure but one really has to suspend belief.

Writing is more professional than the previous book. So either editors are involved or Mr Cartwright’s skills are improving.

Worth a listen. The narrator is pretty good.

Loved It!!

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I love Sam Reilly; his cool logic, grace under fire and fast thinking. I listened to this one in one sitting, growling whenever I got interrupted (not kidding). Anyway, like all the other Sam Reilly books this one is awesome. I love how Mr Cartwright writes and the amount of research he puts into his books, yet the details don't bog the story down. The narration is very well done by David Gilmore, as usual. He really owns this series and keeps the voices the same from their first appearance to latest. I appreciate how Mr Gilmore doesn't go over the top with the characters' emotions, it just wouldn't fit. This is well written and excellently executed. If you are a Sam Reilly fan then you won't want to miss out on this one. The ending was a nice surprise too!

This was my intro to Sam Reilly - I am Hooked!

I really enjoyed this. Christopher Cartwright must do a massive amount of research for his novels...Genetic research, Appalachian topography, ABS systems in the Porsche Cayenne. I'm seriously impressed.

David Gilmore does a great job.

Can't wait to listen to more.

Exciting adventure

OK Sam is back but this is a more modern adventure and more James Bond than Indiana Jones which I really liked its an exciting adventure full of secrets and lies and there is a mole in the team somewhere. This follows the underlying storyline some more and we get a few more details about what has been going on but as always with this author he just teases you and doesn’t show the whole picture so on to the next book I go.

Excellent and really brings the series on

I love where we go with this. The new character that we have introduced in this one I hope comes back for me.
I love the start. Not really much water action in this one for a change. I like everything that goes with Sam's life and its not like he's a one trick pony so from his kidnapping to his ultimate adventure swept me along. In fact I loved how different this one was. Excalibur was very much the same in that it also added a sense of slightly different depth to the series. The Sam Reilly books are great!!

The narration is excellent. I love the narrators voice as it keeps me listening for longer than I should at times. Although the excellent story does of course also do that!

A Simple Blood Test Leads To An Exciting Pursuit.

Ben just wants to donate blood to help his friend following a motorbike accident. Next he's drugged and has to take Sam Reilly hostage to escape from the Pentagon. What follows is a mad dash cross country by Ben and Sam, pursued by the FBI, while Sam's team try and solve the mystery of who Ben is. This is brilliantly written with both high tension and humour. An engaging, action packed, plot very well narrated. A great listen.
