Publisher's summary

Ravaged by time and abandoned by the people who once flocked there in search of golden nuggets, Ragged-Ass Gulch is a ghost town. What’s left is a small, proud, and close pack of people who aren’t looking for change. But change seems to be afoot as several mysterious fires plague the town. That’s where the Nameless Detective comes in...

Ragged-Ass Gulch

It's a little too backwoods hillbilly for me. The language is accurately simple, and the story could be a run-of-the-mill true story in the life of any backwoods Southerner.

Cant beat free...

This was a nice light listening without consequences. Nothing to write home about on the plotline, narrator, or entertaining front but the price was right! Keep it coming audible!!

Not too bad...

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Pronxini is one excellent writer.you can hardly ever go wrong with one of his books..This one fell a little short..and although it kept my interest till the end..was not a very strong story...Three stars only..

Something a little different

Once again I was looking for something that was not too long and a little bit different from what I usually listen to which are mysteries. It was OK.

It passed the time ...

Not much to see here. Somewhat amusing, but a real plot stinker. You could see it coming a mile away. Maybe more.

Nice short story!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Ghosts of Ragged-Ass Gulch to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the book but listening to the audio was a good choice for me.

Would you ever listen to anything by Bill Pronzini again?

Certainly!

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The performance was interesting and the characters were portrayed in a very good manner.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Character study

Story reads like a writing assignment. I would give it a C. Tries to be a character study but lacks the character development and too contrived and predictable to be entertaining. Guessed the "plot twist" way before the end. Sorry--read like something I might write.

FORGETTABLE

I can usually always remember something about any story, but this one did not leave me with anything. It was unremarkable.

Raggedly readable

A well-developed plot allows for this detective story to be enjoyed by anyone who loves to solve crimes from the armchair. The characters are not as intriguing as one would hope for and a little predictable. The end is somewhat rushed and disappointing, as if the author was in a sudden hurry to end a story that until that point was very enjoyable. Well read and enthusiastically performed.
