Publisher's summary

Young, sharp-tongued Paula Masters, used to her cell phones, cherry lattes and designer jeans, suddenly finds herself thrust back in time to 1848 and the Oregon Trail. In modern life, she rebels against the curfews and restrictions of her day, seeing them as unfair hardships. But now in this alien world with its buffalo stampedes, wild Indians, and deadly pestilence, she is about to find out what real hardships are. To get home, she must set aside her rude girl persona and learn how to survive.

On the trek, Paula meets young Daniel Langdon, hunter and part-time scout, and an infatuation quickly becomes a great passion. She realizes this is the love of her life and to get home she will have to leave him behind.

In the tradition of Outlander, The Far Journey is a grand epic of love and tragedy, loyalty and betrayal, peril and survival. Throughout, Paula Masters is tested in body and soul and must discover the strength and toughness inside her.

Time travel, Mystery, Suspense, Great Listen

If you could sum up The Far Journey in three words, what would they be?

Exciting, Entertaining, Suspenseful

Any additional comments?

I absolutely loved the time travel of this listen. It was well written, executed down to the last detail. I would recommend if you enjoy suspense, sci-fi, time travel, and exciting. I never knew what was next. I love this story of a woman being strong when in the time she was thrown into she was suppose to be weak. I will listen again and again. Thank you.

Swearing is distasteful, adult material

Really didn’t like the swearing, was unnecessary. The story would’ve been just as good without all the swearing and other adult references. The ending was the most powerful part of the book.

Amazing take on history

This is an interesting take history. It take something that happened and tells it in a different more interesting way.

This is a young adult novel but it doesn’t take away from the story or my enjoyment.

I believe the authors intent was to introduce this piece of history to a younger audience with a sci fi spin to keep our interests

Unique and touching

I received a copy of the audio book free of charge from the author in exchange for an
honest review. Now that is done, so I can tell you how much I enjoyed this book. I thought at first I was going to be disappointed, but I was so wrong! It is a very intriguing tale of time travel, and being a huge Outlander fan, I am a bit picky! I have read some horrible ones, but this was well written, interesting and very emotional. I enjoyed it greatly. The narration was well done, too. Recommended!!

Don’t give up on it

The book started out like a YA story & there was some foul language/action in the beginning. I was ready to give up on it but for some reason I didn’t. This was needed to set the characters & scene so you could fully grasp what was coming. To truly see the difference in a child today & one in the 1800’s. It was a great story. I couldn’t figure out how it would end & not be devastating but Mr. Reppert did an excellent job. I wish there was a sequel.

Really Enjoyable Story

Any additional comments?

If you like historical time-travel stories this is a really good one. Interesting ,engaging and entertaining. A unique, well written and very enjoyable story that completely pulls you into the 19th century and what life was like for the time period.

A self centered, bratty 16 year old is transported back in time to the year 1848. She finds herself inhabiting the body of another teenager Libby Quarles, who's family is part of a wagon train heading to Oregon. Her looks are changed but her mind and personality are the same. A 21st century girl thrown into the 19th century and a completely different world has to adjust to her surroundings while searching for way home. Through her journey with her "new" family and the wagon train her life is forever altered.

It did about an hour for the story to get really interesting, at the point where she is transported through time.
The "time-slip" is never quite explained.
Interesting concept of when one life ends another is restored.
The ending was unexpected but perfect.

Paula/Libby learning how hard life really used to be is a lesson many of today's generation could use.

Patricia Santomasso did a great job with the narration. Pleasant voice, easy on the ears. Clearly spoken. Smooth narration with perfect pacing. Really good character voices. She was able to convey all the characters emotions and bring them to life. Very enjoyable. I would definitely listen to other books she narrates.

Slow start, but an enjoyable story!

Started out slow, but I kept listening because other reviewers said it was a really good story. I'm glad I didn't give up. I really enjoyed this book. It has a really unique plot. It's definitely not an intensely deep story, but it is intriguing with good character development. I loved how the epilogue tied everything together. I definitely recommend this book!

The Far Journey

The Far Journey: A Timeslip Novel of Survival on the Oregon Trail
: Tom Reppert

A self absorbed sixteen year old girl finds herself flung back in history, 1880's Oregon Trail traveling from the East to West . A wonderful tale with time travel, historical fiction, romance, hardships, Indian attacks, buffalo stampede, illness, injury and many other emotional events. I was drawn into the journey and felt many of the things Paula felt. I hope to find more by this author in the same genre.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Patricia Santomasso brings these characters to life.

Feels like you are there!

Book so filled with detail that you feel as though you are there. The ending was a bit weak. Wish there was a sequel.

Absolutely loved this book!!!

There aren't many books I read/listen to that make me sad to see it end. This is one of them. In fact, there aren't many books I read/listen to twice. This will definitely be one of those as well. To be honest, at the very beginning I thought this might be a little too ditzy for me. Paula Masters was a real brat and right from the beginning, I didn't like her. But as the story progressed, the character development was outstanding and I fell in love with her (figuratively speaking of course). I felt like I was there with the characters suffering and prevailing on their journey. Tom Reppert did a great job creating and developing this story, the characters, and the feelings and emotions one would expect to encounter back in the mid-1800's. The dialogue was very good. There weren't many times when grammar or syntax made me think twice about a sentence which was refreshing given some other books I've listened to recently.

The narration was stunning. Patricia Santomasso did such a wonderful job with this book. She gave it a life of it's own and brought each character to life with her different voices. Each character was easily discernible and the dialogue flowed smoothly. There wasn't ever any doubt who was speaking. The only thing I wasn't fond of was the song. Patricia has a great singing voice, but it just felt weird.

I have one slight reservation about the book, but I don't think it's avoidable, and it's certainly not important to the story as a whole. When you really think about time travel, the situation laid out in the book seems paradoxical to me. If Libby had been a real girl, then Paula's actions would have to have had an effect on the future. That is evidenced by Libby's journal. Logically, had Paula happened upon Libby's journal before her trip back through time, it would have been completely different. Possibly no journal would have existed so that a museum could house it. But when Paula did go back and became Libby, the journal would have changed. See how complicated this is starting to get? Many nuances exist within the theoretical realm of time travel. But back to the book.

Overall, I loved this book and really hope there is another one from Tom coming soon. His writing is exemplary.
