Publisher's summary

In this series debut from New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong, a modern-day homicide detective finds herself in Victorian Scotland—in an unfamiliar body—with a killer on the loose.

"A great read."—Charlaine Harris

May 20, 2019: Homicide detective Mallory is in Edinburgh to be with her dying grandmother. While out on a jog one evening, Mallory hears a woman in distress. She’s drawn to an alley, where she is attacked and loses consciousness.

May 20, 1869: Housemaid Catriona Thomson had been enjoying a half-day off, only to be discovered that night in a lane, where she’d been strangled and left for dead . . . exactly one-hundred-and-fifty years before Mallory was strangled in the same spot.

When Mallory wakes up in Catriona's body in 1869, she must put aside her shock and adjust quickly to the reality: life as a housemaid to an undertaker in Victorian Scotland. She soon discovers that her boss, Dr. Gray, also moonlights as a medical examiner and has just taken on an intriguing case, the strangulation of a young man, similar to the attack on herself. Her only hope is that catching the murderer can lead her back to her modern life . . . before it's too late.

In A Rip Through Time, New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong introduces a brand-new series mixing mystery, romance, and fantasy with thrilling results.

Time Travel Mystery well worth a credit!

I went into this book with the wrong idea of what it was and I am glad because what it turned out to be was so much better. I want to thank #NetGalley the publisher Macmillan Audio and author Kelley Armstrong for allowing me an advanced reader copy of this audio-book in exchange for an honest review. I thought this would be a time travel romance book where the would be a predictable love triangle and lots of swooning etc.. Its not that at all. The lead is a 30 year old homicide detective who ends up falling through a rift in time, this is not explained there is no science here trying to explain the time travel which is fine. It is called a rip through time after all so I did not expect her to have invented a time machine. What it actually is turns out to be a pretty good murder mystery mixed with some time travel and in a setting with a group of rich well developed characters. The story moves well and really kept me interested from opening to close. The last hour or so really surprised me not because of some did not see it coming twist but because of how well thought out the end of the book was from the writer. It definitely leaves the world open for a sequel which is good because I loved this book and want to read the next one as soon as possible. I never felt at any time in the story that events were forced, like this only happened because she needed it to happen to move the story along, I have been so frustrated with so many books where they do something completely out of character of the protagonist just to move the story along and this avoids that trap completely. The narration was also absolutely top notch. Kate Handford did such a good job that I now plan on finding other books narrated by her as I have found that to be an effective way of finding new authors by just searching other stories narrated by the best narrators. It looks like she has a decent selection of books that she has already narrated in the past and I am looking forward to listening to more from her. I will also be reading more from Kelley Armstrong! #timetravel #kelleyarmstrong #mystery

no ending !!

The majority of the story was quite good, however there was absolutely no answer as to:

Did Mallory ever get home
What happened to her grandmother
How did Katrina affect her family in 2019
Did she and Duncan ever get together

This ruined the story for me. I donot like a book that I have spent so much time reading to be left In limbo as to what happens at the end! I hope your next effort ties up the story more efficiently.

Almost Good

The story was interesting. But the protagonist, Mallory, wasn’t likeable. Part of what made me cringe was the annoying aspect of too many stories where they give Hollywood morals to historical characters, presenting modern values and forced relabelling as superior, when they’re anything but from an objective standpoint. And the sly digs at Americans were also not appreciated. Won’t be looking for anything else from this author.

Disappointing Ending

To me if felt as though the author had weaved a tale she couldn't find a way to conclude at the end and so the book just ended with no real conclusion. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable listen.

Good performance

A bit predictable, but nice story and character development. The story could use more action but good on a whole.
