Story
London, 1819. Richard, Marquess of Devon, is satisfied with his ton marriage. His wife of five months, Lady Eugenia Devon, thought she was, too, until she found the book. Their marriage is one of respect and affection, with no messy entanglements such as love. Devon's upbringing impressed upon him that gentlemen slake their baser needs on a mistress, not their gently bred wives. However, once married, he was no longer comfortable bedding a woman other than Eugenia.

Publisher's Summary
One woman catches his eye....
London, 1819. Four years ago, Darius, the earl of Redgrave, fled London two weeks before his wedding to Lady Mary’s sister and married another woman. Now a widower, he has returned to seek a new wife.
At first, Lady Mary doesn’t recognize the handsome lord as the cad who ran out on her sister. After giving him the cut direct in a London ballroom, she finds herself running into him everywhere she goes and fighting a forbidden attraction. Not only has Mary sworn off men, Redgrave is so very wrong for her. But she cannot stop thinking of his kisses. Redgrave means to stay away from Mary, but it is impossible. Passion between two people who can never be together is a dangerous game.

The Earl’s return
Almost didn’t listen to this one but am glad I did. The title details made the Earl sound like a complete reprobate and stories of reformed persons of his ilk are generally too unbelievable. The twist in this story, however, was interesting and made you feel for the foolish man.

good narration, nice story that ticks all the boxes. Unlike so many historical romances this romance is age appropriate and consensual and I don't recall any problematic behaviour. Quite refreshing, more like this please. I don't want to read anymore books about teenage girls and problematic 30 something men.

A good sweet story

Surprisingly good story
This was the last novel of the Marriage Mart Mayhem series I listened to, not because it concluded the series but because I wasn’t sure I’d like the subject matter of this romance.
But I gave it a go and am so glad I did. The circumstance of the Earl’s ruination of Mary’s sister, Abigail (book 3 of the 7 part series), is eventually uncovered. The development of Mary and the Earl’s strong attraction for each other is handled well by the author and there’s another sub-plot in the novel to add another element of interest.
I would like to have known what happened to Claremont and his new wife but that’s not a focal point of the story and theirs was probably to be a loveless marriage typical and accepted of Ton marriages.
The narration was excellent. I really enjoyed this story and recommend it (and the entire series).
