The very best romance novel I have downloaded

I love Sarah MacLean. This book was the first of hers I listened to and now I am hooked. Thank you Sarah and Audible!

Exciting series debut

MacLean writes wonderful stories with perfect tension and pacing. I love her smart, industrious, flawed characters and find myself frequently rooting for the underdog. This book is no exception.

This is one of the rare stories where I needed both the e-book and audiobook so I could keep the story with me when I wasn't able to read. Super fun and engrossing for sure.

Landor's narration is great (clear, no weird sounds, etc.) aside from her character voices which aren't strong and have little if any variation. In other words, all the female characters sound the same as do all the males.

Great narration

Lovely story about redemption and an interesting view on gambling addiction, it is hard to imagine how regular people dealt with such challenges in that time. Rosalind Landor did such a great job, I really loved the male characters she has this way of portraying them with a lazy , languid drawl … it gives you goosebumps

Love these strong, yet still believably 1800s, heroines! Such a great story. Starting Pippa’s now!

The first of the series was a bit tedious, but I'm happy I stuck it out for the rest of the series. Each book improved, mainly because the characters became more interesting and developed. Decent historical romance albeit predictable, but then 98% of historical romances are utterly predictable. Fun series.

Surprisingly Good!

I bought this book on sale and want sure if it was going to be great or terrible. I was pleasantly surprised though. The story was really good, well thought out and creative.

This series is fantastic! The characters are well developed and believable. The leading lady actually has a spine and is worth rooting for.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Penelope was left in the front room of a new house sitting alone on a trunk for her wedding night. That was crude!

This was an ok story

The story in this book was ok, and I did enjoy it for the most part, but at times I just wanted them to get on with it. There was a lot of focus on Bournes anger and revenge. Bourne lost his family estate in a poker game. Years later, Penelope's father won the estate from the man who cheated and stole it from Bourne. He put the estate up for Penelope's dowery to encourage a man to marry her. Bourne kidnapps and marries Penelope to get the estate back. They were childhood friends, and Penelope had always loved him, though she didn’t realize it. The two had passion, but the development of the romance could’ve been better. It dragged on and on and on. It was a lot of him trying to put distance between the two of them until suddently he just realizes, out of nowhere, that he loves her. Kind of like the afterthought. I would have rather there been more time spent on them them falling in love, and his distance, anger and revenge the afterthought. Overall I did enjoy the read well enough, though I did speed it up about halfway through. I am unsure if I’d get the rest in the series, however if they were in the 2 for 1 sale I definitely would.
