Publisher's summary

Sharon Bolton returns with her creepiest stand-alone yet, following a young cop trying to trace the disappearances of a small town's teenagers.

Florence Lovelady's career was made when she convicted coffin-maker Larry Grassbrook of a series of child murders 30 years ago in a small village in Lancashire. Like something out of a nightmare, the victims were buried alive. Florence was able to solve the mystery and get a confession out of Larry before more children were murdered, and he spent the rest of his life in prison.

But now, decades later, he's dead, and events from the past start to repeat themselves. Is someone copying the original murders? Or did she get it wrong all those years ago?

When her own son goes missing under similar circumstances, the case not only gets reopened...it gets personal.

In master of suspense Sharon Bolton's latest thriller, listeners will confirm their deepest fears and meet the only protagonist who can face them.

Critic reviews

"The Craftsman is a brilliant blend of rich crime thriller with a hint of the gothic. Dark, disturbing and with women who totally rock, with The Craftsman Sharon Bolton has proven herself to be a master Craftsman herself. Buy it. Read it. Tell your friends. Then sleep with the light on." (Sarah Pinborough, author)

"Darkly gothic and brilliantly original, The Craftsman will have you spellbound." (JP Delaney, author)

Great storyline and intriguing plot. The little details kept me wondering what direction it would take.

Couldn’t stop listening

This is one of those books that I had to make an effort not to listen to constantly. It had me from the first ten minutes (probably sooner). The characters are well developed and well portrayed. I don’t like to try to figure out a book’s outcome, but some authors make that easy without much effort. I was able to stay blissful unaware up until the very satisfying end. Great book. Off to find another by this author.

Loved this Book. Beware of Spoilers in Reviews

I absolutely loved this book. It as tense, exciting, fast-moving, and well-written with a central character I really loved. What more can you ask for? Oh, it has a wonderful narrator, too.

Story, setting and characters are all distinct and for today's day and age, very original. This is not your typical story. It's mainly about a young woman constable in the late 60s solvin' a crime and dealing with the patriarchy. I loved the 60s setting and the portrayal of sexism in the workplace, and how this kickass woman deals with it. You really cheer for her and feel for her.

The murders are just creepy and horrible. There's a supernatural element. The twists and turns in the investigation and her life are just fantastic, edge of your seat thrills. I loved it.

The writing style is excellent--to the point, assured, crisp, and serious. I felt like I was in the hands of a pro. Just top notch writing.

FYI., a wonderful lady named "Amy" has decided to shout out a major spoiler in her review. Be careful.

Surprising read

I only got this book because my daughter had to read it in high school. I found myself really enjoying the entire book! It was intense and thrilling. The narrator was great and at times I forgot it was one person reading.. she did a great job at performing all of the characters. WAY surprising and unexpended ending and it was a FEEL REALLY good ending... not the kind where it leaves you saying..." Awwww she should have"........ It ends more like .. "Holy cow, she really just did that"....

A Tale Worth Listening To

After my third listen I have to say that I love this story and it is fantastically narrated. With each listen I am gripped and find myself carving out time to listen.

This darkly twisted story will keep you in its thrall from start to finish.

Great plot twists

Author Sharon Bolton writes a fabulous murder mystery/thriller in the “The Craftsman”. I did not see the ending coming. The performance by Natalie Buscombe is perfect. I highly recommend this audio.

Terrible

Was not what I expected at all. The story was disjointed and all over the place.
