Rebuild the lost trust in your relationship, heal from the trauma of infidelity, and create a stronger, more resilient marriage with a proven program based on 22 years of clinical experience.

Nothing hurts more than discovering your partner has been unfaithful. But an affair doesn’t mean your partner doesn’t love you or that your relationship is over. Many couples have recovered from infidelity and saved their marriages. You can too.

From nationally recognized relationship expert, Dr. Kathy Nickerson, comes a step-by-step guide to help couples stay together and recover from an affair. The Courage to Stay leads both partners through each phase of their healing process – from suspicion and discovery to rebuilding and recovery.

Pulling from over two decades of experience working with thousands of couples as a licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Kathy gives you a powerful blueprint for healing from the trauma of infidelity. You will be compassionately and expertly guided through the anguish, resentment, and overwhelm of an affair – towards safety, trust, and a renewed relationship.

In this revolutionary affair recovery book, you will learn how to:

  • Tell your partner you know about the affair, so you can stop it and start healing.
  • Discuss the details of the affair, so you both feel safe and heard.
  • End all contact with the affair partner and increase transparency, so you can rebuild trust.
  • Explore why the affair happened, so you can move towards forgiveness.
  • Manage triggers and build trust, so you can feel more comfortable and secure.
  • Uncover the trauma or pain that caused the affair, so you can make sure it never happens again.

Navigate the 8 critical steps to healing and what to do if you hit some roadblocks along the way.

The 1st chapter.

Hello. Dr Kathy’s ability to aid in the horrible discovery of something like this is absolutely amazing. She is so compassionate and direct. The book really feels like she cared and poured many years of experience into the healing marriages. I’m reading this again.

The best book for infidelity!

I researched many books, looking for the right book for my clients, who are struggling with a current affair; this book is by far the best! I highly recommend it.

Much needed help

Dr. Kathy is amazing! She truly has a soothing voice that just feels like a hug. Especially when going through such a difficult time it is nice to know someone out there has empathy for both partners. She taught me that the betrayer deserves empathy, even if you don't truly understand why they did it, they deserve empathy. When comparing the affair to an addiction it makes more sense than "he just doesn't love you anymore". Thank you for your help 🩵 We will continue to do the work for love. Love for self, each other & our family.

soothing voice

I wish I had this book 8 years ago, it has been eye opening to me. I found Kathy on tik tok and oved her content and approach and this book did not disappoint. if you are in the middle or start of recovery this book wide guide you with some great information and very helpful tools. she said so many things that I complained to my therapist about and proved to me that her affair was not my fault and to sweep it under the rug was a horrible decision. I'm so glad Kathy narrated the book as well, it made it like a counsel session.

The compassion and relatability of the author and narrator made it hard to put down.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences in a relatable and compassionate manner. The book felt like I was listening to a friend, someone who cared. When someone goes through these traumatic events, compassion is so very high on the list of basic needs. Thank you

The title lead me to believe that this would’ve been a sensitive book

The reader of the book sounds biased and gives off a tone of lacking compassion. The writer gives her personal opinion quite a bit which feels so hurtful. From a standpoint of being betrayed we already feel like we’ve made mistakes, I don’t need someone to weigh in on that. This is just how I feel.

This is a great book for the cheater, not so much for the spouse that got cheated on.

There were a lot of things that hit the nail on the head for me, being the spouse that got cheated on, however, there were a few things that really made me feel like this book was way more help for the cheater and forgiving themselves.
Saying that the cheater did the best they could with what they had, makes no sense to me. If he was doing his best he wouldn’t have cheated in the first place.
Also saying that the cheater should not give the sexual details. I think either way it’s an awful thing, but not knowing those details would absolutely have driven me insane either way. I feel it’s helpful to know them so that you know who you’re dealing with and what they were capable of doing.
