An affair: It can rob a couple of their relationship, their happiness, their very identity. And yet this extremely common human experience is so poorly understood. Adultery has existed since marriage was invented, and so, too, the prohibition against it - in fact it has a tenacity that marriage can only envy. Iconic couples' therapist and best-selling author of Mating in Captivity Esther Perel returns with a groundbreaking and provocative look at infidelity, arguing for a more nuanced and less judgmental conversation about our transgressions.

Heralded by the New York Times and Time as the couples therapy with the highest rate of success, Emotionally Focused Therapy works because it views the love relationship as an attachment bond. This idea, once controversial, is now supported by science, and has become widely popular among therapists around the world. In Hold Me Tight, Dr. Sue Johnson presents Emotionally Focused Therapy to the general public for the first time. Johnson teaches that the way to save and enrich a relationship is to reestablish safe emotional connection and preserve the attachment bond.

OW vs. Lover
I really liked this book outside of the Other Woman/Man being constantly called the "lover" Maybe it's just me, but I find it a bit maddening cause no matter how bad your situation is, that other person sought selfish gratification along with your spouse/partner over your needs. There is nothing loving about any of it.
I felt the author wasn't clear enough or loud enough in her narration but I felt the overall was good and sound advice. I am an angry hurt spouse, and I personally feel victimized by this whole issue. I don't know what will happen with my relationship at this point, but this was a good read.

I enjoyed this book as much as anyone can when it's necessary to read such things. It was insightful, explanatory, consoling, and therapeutic. I listened to it twice within the week I received it (I have a long commute). I would recommend it to anyone that finds them self suddenly in this situation. The author explains both the mental and physical results and recovery of an affair. Very objective and informative.

The Short version of this audio book does not justify the more complete version of this book in paper back. One really understands and gets more comprehension of "affair" and how to deal with it from the print copy. Dr. Spring systematically, logically and methodically explains all the psychological drama a couple feel and how to cope with it in her book. Unless the entire book is published in audible, I recommend reading the book than listening to audio (although it will be long, but more useful).

Awesome insight to a moment in time that requires a great deal of valuable knowledge
This book provided me with the necessary information that I required to begin to rebuild a solid foundation for my relationship with my wife. It provided the information in a short and straight forward manner that eliminated having to spend unnecessary time to learn this material. The author has a great knowledge base and proposes an ideology to recovery based on factual and everyday life. Thank you for writing this book.

Dr. Ortman sees recovery as a spiritual journey and draws on the wisdom of diverse faiths, from Christianity to Buddhism. Story
Until now, we've been taught that forgiveness is good for us and that good people forgive. Dr. Janis Abrahms Spring proposes a radical, life-affirming alternative that lets us overcome the corrosive effects of hate and get on with our lives—without forgiving. She also offers a powerful and unconventional model for earning genuine forgiveness—one that asks as much of the offender as it does of the hurt party.

Story
The phrase "broken heart" belies the real trauma behind the all-too-common occurrence of infidelity. Psychologist Dennis Ortman likens the psychological aftermath of sexual betrayal to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in its origin and symptoms, including anxiety, irritability, rage, emotional numbing, and flashbacks. Dr. Ortman sees recovery as a spiritual journey and draws on the wisdom of diverse faiths, from Christianity to Buddhism. He also offers exercises to deepen recovery, such as guided meditations and journaling.
