In addition to being among the most celebrated of contemporary filmmakers, Quentin Tarantino is possibly the most joyously infectious movie lover alive. For years he has touted in interviews his eventual turn to writing books about films. Now, with Cinema Speculation, the time has come, and the results are everything his passionate fans—and all movie lovers—could have hoped for. Organized around key American films from the 1970s, all of which he first saw as a young moviegoer at the time, this book is as intellectually rigorous and insightful as it is rollicking and entertaining.

Story
A poignant look at the disillusionment and angst of the post-World War I generation, The Sun Also Rises introduces two of Hemingway’s most unforgettable characters: Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley. The story follows the flamboyant Brett and the hapless Jake as they journey from the wild nightlife of 1920s Paris to the brutal bullfighting rings of Spain with a motley group of expatriates. In his first great literary masterpiece, Hemingway portrays an age of moral bankruptcy, spiritual dissolution, unrealized love, and vanishing illusions.

Editorial reviews
This 1954 drama won two Academy Awards - Best Actress (Grace Kelly) and Best Screenplay. An alcoholic actor, portrayed by Stacy Keach, is making a comeback in a new play. All through rehearsals he is kept from falling apart by his long-suffering "country girl" wife (Mare Winningham), who has become hard and fierce from her years of struggling with him. The director (Harry Hamlin), mistaking her demeanor for abusiveness, fights with her constantly, all the while falling in love with her in spite of himself. Hamlin comes off forced and graceless; Keach lacks the charm that makes both the wife's sacrifices and the director's belief in him plausible. Winningham is superb in a difficult role in which she must reveal to the audience the heart that her character is hiding under a bitter facade.

Story
In the heart of the South Pacific lies Point Nemo, the most desolate and remote place on Earth. At its core is a dead zone, devoid of life, where government agencies crash their obsolete satellites and space stations, confident they won't harm a soul. When the International Space Station suffers a catastrophic failure and plummets through the atmosphere, it's here that Mission Specialist Julie Rohr, an astrobiologist studying living space dust called xylem, finds herself marooned. Julie's only hope for rescue lies in the hands of her estranged father, Dr. Finn Maddern, a renowned mycologist.
