Publisher's Summary

Full of her trademark mix of unforgettable characters and heartbreaking secrets, The Butterfly Room is the new spellbinding, multi-generational story from Sunday Times best seller Lucinda Riley.

Posy Montague is approaching her 70th birthday. Still living in her beautiful family home, Admiral House, set in the glorious Suffolk countryside where she spent her own idyllic childhood catching butterflies with her beloved father, and raised her own children, Posy knows she must make an agonising decision.

The house is crumbling around her, and Posy knows the time has come to sell it. Then a face appears from the past - Freddie, her first love, who abandoned her and left her heartbroken 50 years ago.

Already struggling to cope with her son Sam’s inept business dealings and the sudden reappearance of her younger son, Nick, Posy is reluctant to trust in Freddie’s renewed affection. And unbeknownst to Posy, Freddie - and Admiral House - have a devastating secret to reveal....

Great story, interesting characters, and I loved the style that it was written in. Relatable, believable, and beautifully narrated.

Not up to her usual standard

Disappointed with the book. I felt that the Witter did not know where she was going. Not much of a story line..

Just Wonderful!

Really wonderful love story that took a twist and shocked me totally! I wasn't expecting that, I thought I had it all figured out and every option that was my thought went out the window on what really happened! I really think I was just as shocked as Posey!

Best listen this year; credit worthy...

Great writing, narration, and story blended together and swept me away. I rarely have a deep emotional connection to characters in the books I listen to, but did with this book. I love being read to by a narrator such as Ms. McKenzie who seems to disappear in the story so I do not even notice her; she is one with the story.

so disappointing, unlike Lucinda Riley

this book is like seating at a table with your dull neighbour who gossips about the other neighbours....nothing of interest actually happens and the characters are so uninspiring. I have loved and re-read every single one of Lucinda's books until now. This book is so bad that I'm shocked it was written by her - there is no excitement, no twists and turns, no interesting story, no complex characters. I really hope it's a one off and not her new style...

Disappointing

Very very ordinary story from one of my favourite writers. Hard to believe it was written by Lucinda Riley. No comparison with any of her previous work.

Pleasant enough, but not Riley’s best novel

The setting and the style of the narration make this a real Aga Saga. More wine and cake is consumed than I would have thought possible! The heroine is elevated to virtual sainthood, but it’s hard to see why. Some difficult topics are introduced, but rather romanticised, and so lose their impact. The narration adds to the sense of upper class English life where everything can be resolved by a cup of tea. I usually love Lucinda Riley’s novels, but this one didn’t do it for me.

Never stop writing

An absolute must to listen to though not whilst driving, so emotional in parts.
A truly beautiful storyline.
Thank you

A bit disappointing

The story is good although not her best, but the narration ruined it for me.

A nice change of story from 7 sisters

Wasn't sure at first having been quite disappointed with the last 7 sisters book but glad I persevered. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and sad to finish it. What a change to have a narrater with good diction and pleasing voice. The storyline is fairly predictable but certainly passed many, many dog walking hours. Would recommend if you want something easy to listen to and not over taxing on the brain!

Far too many daaaaaaaaaarings!

I enjoyed the story but the reader was posher than the queen!
The writing sounded so frightfully frightfully upper class, every time Posy addressed someone it was daaaarling boy or daaaarling girl, so offputting. Do people still talk like that....I expected Noel Coward to make an appearance any minute and announce that pre-dinner cocktails would be served in the drawing room!
I stuck with it because the actual story was lovely with a neat ending.

My first ever review

I enjoyed the book as bizarrely I’m the same age as Posie and contemplating leaving a beloved garden.
One cranky criticism is that one did not celebrate an 18th Birthday in 1955. The “key of the door’ was celebrated at 21!
Overall an enjoyable listen.

Beautiful as a butterfly

Awesome story. As with all Lucinda’s books one just cannot get enough. I wish I could listen to books of this caliber every single day. There really are not enough brilliant authors in this world in my opinion.

I loved this story from beginning to end, with the narrator doing an absolutely brilliant performance!
Thank you
