Publisher's summary

The sweetest words are a person's name, welcome back, and "the same".

I've been on a wonderful and enlightening trip since I began researching this audiobook in 2003 and published its first edition in 2004 as Managing with Conscience for Competitive Advantage. It was praised by reviewers for its importance, need, relevance, and style, prompting me to revisit and refine its premise.

During my research and writing, I was fortunate to discover managers in a variety of businesses who actually understand and practice the awesome power of dignifying and respecting the people who depend on the businesses for their livelihoods - and on whom the businesses depend on for their existence - the perfect win-win. In addition, the profiled managers are totally convinced that dignity is the root cause of their firms' profitability and sustainability. I think you'll enjoy meeting them and profit from their insights.

This book is about new possibilities for individuals and firms.

Preaching to the Choir

I was drawn to this book by the power of it's title "The Power of Dignity" My personal experience in the workplace had already taught me the importance of employee dignity, and how it influences profitability. It was my hope that this book would give me a tool to reinforce the conventional wisdom that dignity is by far the strongest incentive to keep quality employees in the workplace. In my case, Pete Geissler was preaching to the choir.

Pete Geissler relates a number of episodes about how good bartenders and waiters can help a company be more profitable by remembering your name and your regular drink. True, but not convincing to the hard asses in the boardroom.

The most positive comment I have is that Becky White is very easy to listen to as a narrator. I strongly recommend her to any authors looking for voice talent.

Cheers (the TV show)

My family has been in the bar business for decades, and it is so true that a person's name is the sweetest sound on earth. The narrator did a wonderful job and was very pleasant to listen to. I'm reminded of the sitcom 'Cheers' , "where everybody knows you name".
