Extraordinary Book on Love and Christian Mysticism

What made the experience of listening to The Autobiography of Saint Therese of Lisieux the most enjoyable?

Therese's personality and approach to life are so incredible that every Christian should read this book, in addition to John Bunyan's "The Pilgrim's Progress". The two most important commandments for Christians are to love God, and to love your neighbor as yourself, and this book shows that in action.

A beautiful account of child-like simplicity and complete dedication to Christ. Less a 'little flower' and more a lion, Saint Therese demonstrates heroic love, heroic virtue and an heroic prayer life. All primarily from her small village and nun's cell. Without this book she probably would have been unknown to the world, but she was certainly known by Our Lord.

That she was truly an inspired, yet afflicted, soul who considered herself blessed with affliction.

It's not entertaining. It's real life! It is not exciting. It's the reality of life on earth. There is no plot, no storyline, no climactic end. This is the real life autobiography of this young girl who tackled her life, her fears, and her disabilities with strength and courage that she realized (amazingly) were blessings that kept her from the temptations of her of her

Loved It!

This book and the life of St. Therese does a wonderful job of showing us how we can work for God in very small ways. All our efforts for good should be given to God.

I also found it fascinating to learn what a Saint thinks and does to become a Saint. This book caught my attention right away because it started from St. Therese's very young years.

This is my first time.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

All of it was inspiring in particular how I can hear the voice of the young woman come through and easily hear my young daughters and their concerns in the writing.

This is a book to read / listen to and put down to come back to over a period of a month as it is inspirational and trying to read it too quickly robs one of the full experience.

Read and reread

The simplicity is great. Yet with each read there is more to be found and strength to be gained.

This book is life changing.

If you aren’t aware, this autobiography is considered a theological masterpiece. Yet it can be read in a sitting.

So rather than flying through it, I gave it the attention it deserves. I listened carefully and slowly, wanting to understand why this book is so revered by Church scholars. The result is humbling.

I found many gems, but most of all I found myself using the book as a mirror. I don’t think I’ve ever understood what it means to love God.

Inspirational with lessons for everyone

This book recommended from two people so I read it not knowing what to expect. I was presently surprised.
Written by Saint Therese of Lisieux it starts off sharing the story of her life, growing up devoted to God and follows her short life. It offers a unique look of the actions of a Saint and share her mindset, thoughts and views. While the life she lives is challenging and requires personal sacrifice, it is not impossible and brings a relatable example of someone truly devoted to Christ.
On the surface you think it unlikely to offer guidence for a 'modern world' but the lessons and advice are timeless. Advice on dealing with life's little annoances, from people you don't get alone with, to dealing with people who talk at the theater. Shows how often it is the little things we do that have greatest affect on people and pleases God.
While you probably won't go into it or finish expecting to become a saint yourself it does give guidence and inspiration.

The book of Therese is interesting, she was devouted as many saints, yet she was not the typical long suffering, public figure we envision. Her story illustrates the way God sees us, and how we can better see God in our life. It is a little syrupy, but that is what makes it digestable to the common person. She has obviously been choosen to tell a story, and it helps anyone growing in their faith to have an understanding of our being loved by God, and the gift of Jesus and Mary. It is nice to have a visual of the grace in our lives and how God provides.

This is a beautiful story of a young girl whose one wish is to serve Christ. It is a great devotional for any Christian.
