Publisher's Summary

The acclaimed biography of the early church's greatest evangelist, the Apostle Paul. Master storyteller John Pollock makes Paul and his amazing story freshly alive, so that you can know the greatest apostle much as Luke and Timothy did as they traveled with him. As you listen, you'll sense Paul's motives, his aims and priorities; what mattered to him; and what he was willing to die for.

Excellent Account of Paul's journeys

I've spent nearly 40 years reading and studying the Bible. I have a ThM - Master of Theology, MDiv - Master of Divinity, and a BA in Christian Thought. I am currently teaching high school Bible at a Christian school. I found myself enthralled with the author's retelling Paul's story from Damascus to Rome in a way I've longed to hear it. I found myself making time to listen to this audiobook and finished it in just a few days. The reader did an excellent job telling it.

The Story of Paul the Apostle

This Audiobook brought the story of Paul and the Apostles to life for me. Although I have heard and read the scripture all my life, Kirby Heyborne read the story with such feeling that the words of John Pollock and the Bible gave me the feeling that I was an eye witness to our Christian heritage.

I have actually read the book and the book I feel is better than the audio book

The Apostle Paul

Would you listen to The Apostle again? Why?

Maybe. Points were VERY well conveyed.

What did you like best about this story?

The broad scope of Apostle work and passion for Jesus Christ. Love it!

Which character – as performed by Kirby Heyborne – was your favorite?

??

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Let the Redeemed of the Lord say so!

Any additional comments?

This was a great, GREAT book! However, I would have loved to have heard it read by, say, Richard Ferrone. Kirby Heyborne is an AWESOME reader - no doubt about that!!! His soothing voice should be used for reading the entire bible. Awe, wouldn't that be wonderful (if it's not been done)? For this book, however, he was somewhat mundane. I believe had I not loved the N.T. Scriptures, the Book of Acts and the life of Apostle Paul, along with this thorough recount of his life, I would have left the book in the first chapter. But, I just had to finish it AND very glad I did. Love you Kirby. But, the life and work of this great man needed to be read by someone who had the greater thrust needed to convey even the smallest detail and actions. But, a huge A+ on the book!

Not really an engaging novel

I expected more of a personal perspective in this, as one being able to walk in the same shoes, feeling the emotions of Paul... To me it was more of a distanced commentary on Paul's life. The info was good, and the author tried to stay very close to the Scriptures. This is good in a sense, but to those already familiar with the Scriptures and who are looking for "an adventure" with Paul, you won't really find that here. At lest that is my opinion.

Outstanding look into Paul's life

This was a very good look into the life of Paul the Apostle. It was accurate and most detail and easier to understand then just reading Scripture. Job well done.

The Life of Paul

A detailed in depth look at Paul. Easy to listen to. You could almost feel you were with him as he walked through the streets.
The accurate history makes Paul come alive.

Brought close to tears regularly!

As someone who has had a fascination with Paul for a while but simply not intelligent enough to grasp his philosophical writings and teachings I was thrilled to find this book/audiobook where I could listen to a thoroughly researched and understood journey of one of the most important figures of Christian and indeed world history.

I got to go on Pauls journey, understand him as a person, understand the cultural context of his teaching and letters understand where and why there are controversies in his teaching, potentially what he was really talking about especially around the role of women in the church and the context around his statements on homosexuality. I feel very much I now understand the person of Paul and the pain and suffering he endured in pursuit of redemption for himself before his Lord Jesus and relentless fervour and zeal to bring the Gospel to all people.

I would recommend this book to anyone within or outside the Christian faith who is looking for insight to the apostle to the Gentiles (non-Jews) a Pharisee who had Christians killed and sought to destroy the fledgling church turn pioneer apostle, who considered himself the least of the apostles but the hardest working.

The greatest man who ever lived

By the time I write this I have listened to the full audiobook three times - it is that compelling. Second only to his Master, Paul of Tarsus must be the greatest man who ever lived, who most deeply transformed the world and who most heroically surmounted vicious odds that should have made Christianity nothing but a blip in the bumbling course of civilisation. Am I exaggerating? Let this wonderful biography convince you of how the most unlikely message was preached with unrelenting passion by the most unlikely of converts in the most unlikely circumstances. Yes - the incomparable gift from God only survived to reach us through the incomparable feat of this truly exceptional man. The late John Pollock rediscovered a true hero for us, and this book deserves to be read -or listened to- many times over.

Amazing Insight into the mission of Paul

By listening, over and over again, to this quality audiobook, we can gain a very rich understanding of the First Century church foundations in the context of Jewish opposition to the Way of Christ and to Roman and Greek cultural oppression of the early believers.

Paul and his fellow converts withstood fierce opposition yet continued to spread the Gospel throughout the World.

When Rabbi Saul became Paul, missionary to the Gentiles, he moved from persecutor to persecuted and suffered incredible physical torture and mental anguish up to his murder under Nero.

This book is a wonderful encouragement to us to maintain a commitment to Christ in the midst of this wealthy and hedonistic society.

Paul's biography

John Pollock does an excellent job of presenting Paul and contextualising his epistles. The character building and chronological sequence and the insights in Pollock's research makes the reader feel as if Paul is a close friend that they could identify with. My favourite part was the contrasting of Paul and Stephen in one of the opening chapters. Kirby has an easy listening voice and is easy to understand, but I felt he could have dramatised some parts for storytelling sakes.
