The year 2060 is drawing to a close, and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. It's a time for loved ones to come together. But sometimes the deepest hatreds seethe within the closest relationships, and blood flows faster than water....

For Lieutenant Eve Dallas of the NYPSD, the job is a useful reminder of what she has to be grateful for this season. Hosting Roarke's big Irish family for the holiday may be challenging, but it's a joyful improvement on her own dark childhood.

Other couples aren't as lucky as Eve and Roarke. The Reinholds, for example, are lying on the floor of their Downing Street apartment, stabbed and bludgeoned almost beyond recognition. Those who knew them are stunned - and even more heartbroken by the overwhelming evidence that they were murdered by their own son. Twenty-six-year-old Jerry hadn't exactly made a good impression on all the bosses who fired him or the girlfriend who dumped him - but they didn't think he was capable of this.

Turns out Jerry is not only capable of brutality but taking a liking to it. With the money he's stolen from his parents, and a long list of grievances, he intends to finally make his mark on the world. Eve and her team already know the who, how, and why of this murder. What they need to pinpoint is where Jerry's going to strike next.

I always enjoy the In Death series, meeting Eve and Roark, Peabody and McNabb and the rest of the characters, and this book did not disappoint. Set around the Thanksgiving holidays (forcing Eve to deal with her decidedly mixed feelings about families and holiday celebrations), Thanksgiving in Death features an intriguing mystery, solid detective work, and doses of humor mixed with the drama. As always, Susan Ericksen does a stellar job of narration, bringing life to the different characters.

Classic Eve and Roark -- and all the gang!

J.D. Robb's books are usually suspenseful but not horrifying. This one tips over the edge with the perpetrator, truly thankless son, student, boyfriend, a total psychopath! In the wake of all the school shootings, random deaths, and other tragedies appearing on the news, this book really hits home.

Even the continuing story of Eve Dallas is not enough to soften the impact of this novel.

Horrifying!

Gets a little too graphic at times for my comfort level (thank goodness for FF). Overall series continues to be well written and satisfying.

Another great story from J. D. Robb! I love when Eve, Roark, the NYPSD family and Roark’s Irish family all get together. I had a little problem listening to the killings in this one. That happens in the In Death Series but the deaths in this one were so callous, cold and vicious. I guess as many are in this series but these really got to me. The killer was a cold hearted, narcissist who takes no responsibility for who he is and what he does. He blames everyone for his failings and I hated him for everything he is and had no pity or sympathy for him. I so wanted the capture, interrogation and punishment; the whole ending to be just more. I wanted him to suffer and really pay for what he had done. But I have to say that is what makes the In Death Series so great!

Another Great Eve and Roark story!

A feckless son kills his mother and father. He enjoyed it and a killer is born - and on the loose. He begins killing people he has held a grudge against. It is almost Thanksgiving and Eve and Roark will be hosting a dinner for Roark's family from Ireland and many of their New York friends. Eve is torn between celebrating the Thanksgiving holidays and catching the horrible killer. He really is one of the most evil of all the In Death killers. It is interesting because we know what he is thinking and what he is planning. It is chilling stuff and many parts are hard to listen to - in fact I had to fast forward through some of the worst of the situations involving the killer. The hunt goes on fast and furious but the killer has good luck and stays ahead of Eve. The listener must hope that the luck will swing to the favor of Eve and her fellow cops. This is one of the best In Death books in the series.

I cannot praise the narrator enough. She is awesome and makes the In Death books even better than written by J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts. That is saying a lot because the author does a fantastic job of writing and story telling. The narrator consistently performs the characters. The series would die if a new narrator was chosen. I also like the music at the beginning and end of the In Death books. It is distinctive and as soon as I hear the beginning strains, I know I am in for a treat.
