First In Death Installment I ever returned

I hate to do this, but I’m going to drop this series as I’ve grown tired of the similar or parallel plots to previous installments. In addition, the frequency of victimized women and/or their circumstances similar to Eve’s past has become tedious. Don’t get me wrong, I applaud Eve’s resolute determination to make something of herself despite her tragic beginnings. However, I'm tired of almost every victim reminding Eve of herself and that room in Dallas, TX.

I've stuck with this series for this long because I love how the supporting cast is well fleshed out. Unfortunately, the increasing transparency of social commentary cancels out any "escapism" in fiction. For the first time, I ended up returning this title and exchanging it for something else.

Wait why is this so familiar?

the story is great but as I listened to it i realized that I knew it already I could tell what would happen next its like I already read or listened to it but it just came out didn't it .

Peabody is still my favorite character

I have listened to every book in the series and there is now a sameness about the books. The series is getting old and tired. The books are interesting in parts but many of them fail to keep my attention. Some of the things I did not like, or that are growing old are:
The plots have become unbelievable. NYPSD does not plan an international assault.
No police Department would allow a lieutenant's husband to take a central role in a complex assault.
Dr. Mira is completely unbelievable - a psychologist cannot know everything about a criminal after only one interview
Mavis is way too over the top dramatic. In fact the entire books are becoming too melodramatic
Eve is always snarky and is very self important - she expects Roark to stop everything and help her.
Roark has too much to do with his businesses to get so involved in his wife's police work.
Sex scenes are thrown in randomly and are unrealistic and repetitive.
The introductory music for this book was not like previous books - I did not like it.
I thought this book was a little "woke" and I am sick to death of woke. I want to escape from it.
This book and most of the previous books are much too long - a lot of unnecessary detail - it drags.
Robb consistently throws almost every character into each book - usually gratuitously

I do like Peabody an little Bella. They are fun characters and make me smile. And I like the narration by Susan Ericksen. She is always excellent and is NOT old and tired.

Have a cup of coffee, Eve and the gang are back!

Every year I waite for the release of the next In Death book. This does not disappoint. I love reconnecting with all the characters. Mavis bought a house.(sorry for the spoiler) This is a complicated, many layered story, Thank you Nora Roberts all the hours of pleasure you have given this old lady. You make me feel young.

fanaticism to the ult

Another winner from J D Robb in the In Death series. The gang is all here in this one. But Eve must bring in outside help to take down a cult committing the most heinous of crimes in the name of a " higher power". It starts with the murder of an artist who was having a secret lesbian affair with a member of the Natural Order cult. Robb never disappoints, and this is a truly good one. Highly recommend this one if you love a strong kick-ass cop.

I should have waited to buy the book. I was on vacation, I wanted it the day it came out and thought I could listen to it on flights. I will only do biographies, or self help audio from now on. The audio is flat and needs a different voice.

it just wasn't my favorite.

I believe I've read/listened to all of the Eve Dallas books. Maybe I'm getting tired of them or something. it's possibly time to move on for me.

Maybe getting close to running out of adventures for Eve?

This story started off slow . Got better as it went on, but I get the overall feeling that the author is making Eve seem a little on the boring side. Her gruff personality is sometimes annoying and even with all her years of experience hasn’t improved her demeanor. For someone so gifted at solving crimes, she has trouble being gracious to those close to her. Some levity is fine, but in some personal situations she needs a good slap. I can only hope the stories and Eves sour disposition get better.

The end of a series

This series has always had two components...the story of Eve, Roarke and all of their friends and then there was the crime component-the “case” or police procedural. I loved the portion of the story that let us be part of Eve’s world-the personal. I toggled between interest and boredom on the “case” in each story. This installment really signaled the end for me because the author seems to have run out of meat for Eve, Roarke and their friends and colleagues. I miss Charles and Louise and the house parties and one-off conversations over a glass of wine at some dumpy bar with bad food. This entire book, with the exception of some forced, half-hearted meaningful moments (poor Eve saw herself in the face of the victim, Mavis gets a new house, etc.,) was centered around a far-fetched, overly contrived, and completely unbelievable case. I set the audio book to a speed of 1.7 and desperately wanted to fast forward through the case just to get to something meaningful, but alas, there was nothing of substance. This one could easily be skipped and would not be missed. I really hope this author figures out a way to bring interest back to Eve and Roarke, otherwise this series should gracefully find a way to wrap up. Wait for a library copy-I have read and listened to freebies that surpassed this one by a mile.
But the narrator is my favorite!

YANCY, TIBBLE, SHELBY, HER ENTIRE DEPARTMENT ALONG WITH WHITNEY AND MIRA AND THEN NADINE AFTER ASSI\TING EVE IS ALREADY PLANNING HER NEXT BOOK FROM THE SIDELINES.THE FBI IS HELPFUL ALONG WITH INTERPOL
GREAT NARRATION AS USUAL.
THEN THERE IS THE GREAT LOVE STORY OF ROARKE AND EVE.

OH AND CONGRATES TO MAVIS AND LEONARDO AND PEABODY AND MCNAB.
