Publisher's Summary

Although Laurel has come to accept her true identity as a faerie, she refuses to turn her back on her human life—and especially her boyfriend, David—to return to the faerie world.

But when she is summoned to Avalon, Laurel’s feelings for the charismatic faerie sentry Tamani are undeniable. She is forced to make a choice—a choice that could break her heart.

Critic Reviews

"Mixing a little bit of Harry Potter and a lot of Twilight (Team David! Team Tam!), Pike has hit on a winning combination. Yet it is her own graceful take on life inside Avalon that adds a shimmering patina sure to enthrall readers." (Booklist)

The spell continues

This is the sequel to Aprilynne Pike's wonderful debut novel, Wings. Laurel is summoned to the fairy realm of Avolon to commence her fairy studies. I was a little disappointed here, as we saw nothing really of Laurel's studies or of her interaction with her classmates. Laurel was revealed to have an enemy among the fairies, but the plot thread came to nothing. However, the novel picked up considerably when Laurel rejoined the human world. As with Wings, Spells is well written with many beautiful descriptions and the main protagonists are all strong in their own right. In fact, I thought they came across even more strongly in this sequel. I'm eagerly awaiting book 3.
