Publisher's Summary

On the island of Avalon, everyone has magical abilities.

Except Selena Pearce.

As if being the only nonmagical person on the island isn’t bad enough, her parents happen to be the king and queen of Avalon - and the most magical people alive.

She’s never felt like she fit in on Avalon, but that all changes when she leaves the island and meets Julian - a mesmerizing, mysterious human. Everything feels perfect between them at first... until he drags her through a portal to the enchanted realm of the fae, where Selena learns that there’s more to the mystery of why she doesn’t have magic than she ever imagined.

Long-buried secrets soon emerge, and she discovers that to escape the fae realm, she must compete in the annual Faerie Games - a televised reality show competition where half-bloods fight to the death.

To survive, she’ll have to make alliances, unravel the mysteries of her past, and figure out whether she can trust Julian. He wants to help her, and there’s no denying the connection between them. But Julian’s already betrayed her once. Why wouldn’t he do it again?

Consistent style, terrible psychology

The author seems to have a consistent style across a number of books. I liked the vampire focused books alright because the essence of humanity was violated much less. This collection marks soul mates, petty and foolish gods, death games, and evil people who revel in their wickedness. All such insanity and stupidity that I am usually very bored. Every chapter could just be skipped except a few in the beginning that explain a few things.

Every one, including the Julian dude, should simply die, make the story short, and I'm confident it would have been a better story. The main character is an idiot. The other characters are idiots and lack meaningfully reasonable characters.

The narrator is talented and has the bleak, but somehow stressed voice that adds feeling to this kind of story. Despite a terrible story composed of discarded story clips, the narrator did a pretty good job.

If I had to summarize the lesson thoroughly taught about both the characters and life, I might say it teaches no person is a genuine person and no person has genuine freedom of choice. Worse, the concept of love has never been represented well by Michelle Madow. The inconsistencies in these lessons tells me she probably doesn't understand love nor the cycle of human motivations. The massive and mysterious subject of love is far easier to understand than her thoughts at the time of writing these books.

Hmm

I really enjoy this series but it’s not complete. Selena is a little annoying and selfish but all in all, she has a strong character and is young. Patricia Santomasso did an amazing job at narrating

Not so good…

I don’t often write unkind reviews as no author goes out to write a bad story. But I could not finish this. The grammar was cliched and in places painful to listen to. Storyline was predictable. Characters internal thoughts were annoying. It needs a lot more work. Like a bad cross between the Hunger Games and a million other books about lethal, magical competitions.

I loved the series

Spoiler Alert! I loved the series. Usually, they get boring after the third book. I was a little disappointed with the ending because I didn’t feel like all ends were tied up. I was left wondering what happened to the people in the hidden city and the best friend?

Enjoyed it!

I really enjoyed this series. I will say it left several things open at the end of the book, and I can’t seem to find if there’s another series that answers these questions?

Absolutely Loved this Series

Whoever said Hunger games with Fairies in there review is so wrong!! yes it has some similarities but this stories has its own twists n turns I never seen coming till they happened. I love this writer and have almost read every book she has written since finding her books. Can't wait to start the Dragon Twin series that continues off of this one and the previous 2 series before!

Fairies

I always loved the Greek and Roman mythology. I had to listen to all the books and wished we could use some of the magic in our world, which is looking more and more like the other world

Truly, truly amazing fantasy series

This author and narrator has lifted my spirits during a tough time. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have this series to listen to as an audiobook while driving and working. It has also inspired me to continue being a writer.

Enjoyable series

I have really enjoyed this series but I didn’t like the ending of the fifth and final book in the series. I’m not sure if these tie in to another series (I can’t find anything mentioning their names) but it has left questions unanswered. I thought the narration was good and the fact all 5 books come in one series therefore only one of my credits was a huge bonus. This is the first book/series I’ve read by this author but will check out some more and hopefully figure out if there are any others which continue their story.

Easy read but disappointing ending

Easy relaxing read a bit childish or slow & boring in parts. It’s a mix of Percy Jackson, Hunger Games and elementals. If you like that kind of thing you should enjoy series.

Biggest issue is that the series ends with the big war still ahead and several unresolved stories and questions still requiring answers. Don’t know if the author intends on doing a follow up series but think without it the series is a little anticlimactic

Pretty good

This was pretty good although pretty much just a faerie version of the hunger games. I am a little bit confused, didn’t get to find out what happens with the demons and the half bloods etc, do I have to read a different series for that? I will have to look in to it. Also why did the vampire king and the faerie prince have the same name? That was a little confusing at times.. but it was a good series none the less!
