Publisher's Summary

When her fate rests on an impossible choice, is she brave enough to make one?

As if lousy parents, a plethora of social inhibitions, and a complicated love triangle weren't enough problems, Lexus Wren just discovered she's a powerful Catalyst, capable of commanding Conduits to do her bidding. Pretty heady stuff for a 15-year-old who can't control her own urge to bite her nails.

When another Catalyst invites Lexus and her twin would-be boyfriends to leave behind their new family and enroll in a school for "gifted students" or risk permanent separation, Lexus is forced to make a choice, and she's never been very good at that, either.

Suddenly surrounded by others of her kind, Lexus quickly learns that her abilities are greater than she ever imagined, and the twins are not the only people who crave her touch. When she's caught in the middle of a battle for power, can the boys set aside the competition between them in time to protect her from herself?

If you like paranormal romance stories with supernatural magic, a love triangle hotter than Twilight, and John Green-style teenage angst, you'll be captivated by Growing Wings!

Catalysts and Conduits

You definitely want to read Book 1 Flightless Bird to get the full story. I like the Catalysts and Conduits idea - its new and something I have not seen done before. That being said I am totally over the love triangle and Lexus is a weak and whiney lead. This could be a really great series with more focus on their special abilities and powers and less on the love triangle. I am hoping Lexus will get some confidence and a backbone in book 3.

Great read/listen

My second read/listen from author Kellie McAllen the follow-up to Flightless Bird (The Caged Series, #1) WOW! I love it! So much that Taking Flight (The Caged #3) will be my next read. High school sucks, the age the stuff that some kids have to go through. This book touches on all that and more. No spoilers here this is a must read, buy the book, get into the book/series as I have. You too will enjoy it!
I have to say the book was better than the narration, there was an audible "tinny" sound throughout the book no matter what device I listened to it on.

The spark grows

Growing Wings is the second book in The Caged Series and it picks up right where book 1 left off.

Lexis, Phoenix, and Griffin are given the opportunity to attend a school for special kids. (I love the whole concept of the catalysts and conduits.) This school opens up a whole new way of life for the three of them, however not everything is perfect.

I'm anxiously awaiting the next story in the series to see how the cliffhanger is resolved.

Paranormal Y.A.

I enjoyed the book. I really like paranormal Y.A. The teens in the book have some powers and then go to a school to learn how to manage them. The love triangle was different because it involved two brothers, which made for some drama. Some exciting moments in the book, especially at the end. I'd like to read or listen to more books in this series so I can find out what happens with Lexus, Griffin, and Phoenix.

Sparks between us

I loved the first book in this series, Flightless Bird, and was so excited to get to listen to the second book in the series.

We met Lexus and the twins in the first book. We found out how shy she was and how she just wanted to blend into the background because of the issues her family had created for us. Here, Lexus is attending a new school with the twins and instead of being able to blend into the background, her powers makes her shine. She's trying to make the hard decision of which twin best suits her or if she would be better off with someone else as her boyfriend entirely...

This book is the perfect blend of magic and teen romance. For me, it was a quite enjoyable listen. I hope to listen to more in this series soon!

This review copy audiobook was provided by the author/narrator/publisher free of charge.

A sizzling read!

When her fate rests on an impossible choice, is she brave enough to make one?
A new school...
A new life...
Learning about her powers...
While trying to juggle her would-be boyfriends...

An excellent sequel to Flightless Bird! Such a beautiful follow up to book 1.

The intensity. The emotion. The love. The heartbreak. The incident. Wow. Just wow. Utterly speechless. That's how powerful and good it was!

This is the author's most finest work I have read! I'm so glad about that last chapter! I hoped it would end like that when I read book 1! My prayers were answered! Seriously, I wanted to email the author and suggest that!!! (Luckily, I didn't have to!).

Full of power, love, angst, Catalysts, Conduits, heartbreak, trust, uncertainty, betrayal and hope.

Perfect for readers of paranormal romances.

The narrator makes the reading of the book enjoyable and pleasing.

As good as Flightless Bird

What did you love best about Growing Wings?

I loved the idea of Catalysts and Conduits, and enjoyed learning about their powers and what they can do

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character was Lexus, it was interesting to see her overcome her past and start spreading her wings.

What does Heather Taylor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I loved her narration, she portrayed teenagers' personalities and way of speaking very well.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Lexus using her powers to control a Conduit to keep other people safe. No spoilers.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this continuations of Flightless Bird. There was a lot of drama, a love triangle, strong emotions and difficult decisions to make. Lexus was learning about her power, and discovered that she was a Catalyst who was able to control Conduits to do her bidding. Some of her dilemmas were connected to her learning about her true nature, some to her being a teenager. She was not able to make her choice between two boys, but I believe she would put emotional turmoil behind her as she matures. I'm looking forward to seeing her do that.Highly recommended for lovers of YA Paranormal stories.

Magic, 2 loves, and a new school

Any additional comments?

Growing Wings: The Caged Series, Book 2
Written by: Kellie McAllen
Narrated by: Heather Taylor
This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
I read/listened to book one and this book is so much better! This has fantasy right away and continues to the end. It has more suspense, intrigue, and you learn more about both the kids families. This is a great book and an easy 5 star book. This is a fun book too. The only thing I didn't like about it is the main girl of the story is a wimp. It takes the whole book before she gets a back bone! But she is making progress! Yeah!!! Maybe in more books we will see more progress. It has been a steady progression....
I enjoyed this book and the narration was the same as last time and continued as before.

A great story and great audio

I was gifted this audio, I read the book already and loved it, The story continues and Lexus and the boys are at Magnus Verde trying to fit in and learn about their powers, but no school is without their dramas and whilst nothing like their old school, they have a lot to learn. Full of excitement and drama you can't help but get drawn in

The narrator makes the story more exciting, the quality is clear and it is easy to listen along too, and the dual POV is awesome, I highly recommend this book and audio and have now started on audio of book three which I just had to buy

Second in the series, a must listen/read this book

I wish I could tell all the details but lets not do that just yet. This book is easy to listen to and I did read the book before. It continues the story of Lexus along with Phoenix and Griffin as they move to a new school. She also meets a new guy and Phoenix and Griffin meet other girls. This is due to the attraction between a catalyst and a conduit. Find out more when you listen to this great book
