Publisher's summary

A hidden truth. Mortal enemies. Doomed love.

Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a drakia descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.

Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy. Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide.

GREAT STORY! READ THE ABRIDGED VERSION THOUGH

I've never reviewed a book before, but I've decided to review this one because while I LOVED the story and the characters, the writer repeated herself sooooo much that halfway through the book I had to skip to the end because it started to grate on my nerves listening to the same situations and feelings repeated over and over and over again. It seemed as though with each new event I had to listen to the protagonist re-tell every feeling and event from the previous pages. It was as if the author thought that I was stupid so she had to repeat everything all the time just in case I couldn’t remember. I think that the writer could take out about a fourth of the book and that would make it better. I'm surprised that her editor didn't help her cut some or a lot of the rehashing just to help the story move along. This is the first book that I believe the 'abridged' version would be an improvement on the ‘unabridged’. BTW, I LOVED the Narrarator Therese Plummer!

Interesting new twist on Dragons!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes because it take a new look at dragons. Instead of space, or far off worlds this brings dragons in to our world threw the eyes of a teenage girl. also instead of being from a dragon riders point of view it is from the dragon. intreaging right?

What other book might you compare Firelight to and why?

No other because this book and its partner in the series are one of a kind. Just try it!

Have you listened to any of Therese Plummer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She is a very steady narator that you can depend on for narating well. I love the way she captures the voices in this book bringing them to life. She does a specialy great job on the male charactors. Vibrent!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

sore, fight, be hunted and all while falling inlove.

Any additional comments?

This book is unique with a mix of romance and action that will be sure to keep you interested all the way threw. no extreme fears or violince but keeps you looking forward to the next book wich is great to. can't wait for book three!

A fun and enjoyable young adult novel

Would you listen to Firelight again? Why?

Yes. It is a good story with some minor flaws but was very enjoyable.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters and how they interacted with each other. It was believable. The one flaw is that Jacinda was supposed to be so powerful as a fire breather but it never seemed to really help her or make a difference.

What does Therese Plummer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She has a nice voice that sounded age appropriate and lent a lot of enjoyment to the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Dragons are beautiful creatures.

Any additional comments?

Any parent should be happy for their child to read this book

More, please

Good story, but no resolution. Even if it is a start to a series, I need some closure.

Entertaining Fiction

Good story. Because it is told in First Person and the narrator has LOTS of conversations with herself, it can seem a bit schizophrenic at times. As she deals with internal conflicts over whether or not to trust the handsome young man, she vacillates back and forth - first talking herself into trusting him and then changing her mind. I know that teen-age girls are notoriously wishy-washy, but she is even more indecisive than most.

Performance was great, story was good. If you want to forget about real life for a while and enjoy the tumultuous world of young love, it's worth a read. I did enjoy it and will probably read the rest of the series.

Not bad...

Well, it was a fun listen. I was in the mood for something simple and entertaining after finishing a long epic novel prior to this listen. I haven't listened to a YA book in a while either, so figured this would be a good bet. I agree with some of the other commentators that the repetition of Jacinda's inner dialogue about her conflicted emotions starts to get annoying. But overall, I was able to deal with it. Part of what kept me going through some of those tedious parts was reminding myself that this is written from the point of view of a teenager - and I remember how my mind worked at that age - overly dramatic realizations and declarations go with the territory. I felt that the narrator did a really good job with the material. Will I keep on with the series? No, probably not worth a credit, and I'm eager for some more substance again after this brief, but enjoyable YA adventure.

He lights her fire

Firelight is a type of Romeo and Juliet tale where Will, who is a hunter, meets Jacinda who happens to be a drakia, an intelligent being evolved from dragons; Wills family hunts drakia.
The Drakia keep a closely guarded secret that no one, not even the hunters know; they can transform into human form.
As circumstances bring these two together there is an immediate attraction. Will lights her fire in more ways than one; which is not a good thing if Jacinda wants to keep the drakia secret.
This book is written for a YA audience and, as is typically for this genre, heavily emphasizes teenage infatuation; but still is a good story even for an older listener.
Know that this is book one of a series and does not have a concise ending, but sets up interest for the next book.
