Publisher's summary

Young Spenser is tough. No doubt about it. After all, he's being raised by his father and uncles - three of the toughest men in town. He knows how to fight, and he's had to prove it. But his father taught him something far more valuable: Sometimes the toughest thing a guy can do is walk away from a fight.

So when Spenser sees his friend Jeannie being taken in a boat downriver by her abusive father, he knows he has a hard decision to make. Should he trust his gut and risk his own life to save Jeannie's? And if so, how can he overcome such a bear of a man?

Robert B. Parker's best-selling Spenser novels are a worldwide phenomenon. Now, for the first time, he gives us a glimpse into the formative years of his most iconic character. Chasing the Bear is a suspenseful thriller sure to satisfy Parker's growing legion of fans.

Bear

I found this Robert b Parker book very well done and found the narration excellent. This is a very engaging story with a lot of human qualities to it.

A good novella

I enjoyed learning about Spenser's background. The history of Pearl was cute . I do think that the description of Spencer's love life hid some former escapades.

Almost great

Up to the usual Parker standards, if you, like I, enjoy his excellent writing. Only hitch is the reader, who is mediocre by my reckoning, though his adolescent-sounding voice is almost acceptable for most of the story. given that this is a telling by a young version of Spenser.

Childish dialogue of someone living in dreamland.

Absolutely the worst book I’ve ever heard! So predictable like previous books that I can skip or fast forward. Is would need to fast forward the entire book in this case.

Boring.

Written with way too many "he said" "she said" and so so slow. I just wanted to fast forward through the immature dialogue.
