Publisher's summary

Mason Becker is a self-published writer suffering from mild success. After the death of his girlfriend, he quits his job, moves into a tiny apartment in a small town in Ohio, and spends the next several months convincing himself to leave for anything other than food, beer, or cigarettes. He doesn't even really consider himself a writer. He's a guy who cashed in his 401(k) and is quietly biding his time until he has to find another job.

On the night he finally forces himself out to a local bar, he comes back to the apartment to find his twin brother, Doug. Doug is searching through Mason's laptop and introduces him to his "hate reader", an Internet troll with the slightly dyslexic name of Dargonslayer. Doug signs them up for a convention taking place in a few weeks, noting that Dargonslayer is going to be there and stoking Mason to seek vengeance, even if that vengeance comes only in the form of punching his hate reader in the dick. They just have to survive the oncoming blur of drinking, awkward sex, nature walks, and moderate vandalism.

I'll Stop the World and Squirm With You

Would you listen to Squirm with Me again? Why?

I would, I've been a fan of Andersen Prunty's writing for a while now and this is the first full audiobook of his I've listened to. His voice and portrayal of the characters emphasizes the depressing tedium of their lives and adds to the overall mood of the story.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the overall package as opposed to any particular part of it. Just the way it was set, was something like theater of the absurd. The characters and plot were fantastic.

What about Andersen Prunty’s performance did you like?

I enjoyed the fact that he read the book out loud the same way that I would've read it in my head. He gave it the impact and impression that he wanted to give it and that felt very real.

If you could take any character from Squirm with Me out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I would take Starflower out to dinner, or the receptionist. They seemed the most like they'd be worth talking to.

Any additional comments?

Seeing that I've given this pretty good ratings you might assume I'm going to recommend it. And while I am going to, it's with a bit more of a caveat. Prunty's writing isn't for everyone, and his narration suits his writing to a T. Definitely a story to listen to the sample before diving into, but if you're someone who can enjoy his style this is definitely a good book for you.

I received a code for this book from the author because he was doing a giveaway through his Facebook. There was no necessity of providing a review, but after listening I decided to do so anyways.

Prunty's dry wit and delivery on display

If you haven't listened to Prunty on audio, you are missing out. Pruntys dry wit and delivery works extremely well with his written word. Dude has serious skills.

Mason, a writer with a fisting mind and author of the mildly successful “Fuckless”, is grieving the burning loss of his girlfriend Virginia. Or the loss of his burning girlfriend Virginia, rather. Upon the arrival of his twin brother, Fat Doug, he miraculously musters up the courage to leave his apartment and go have a little fun.

Eating Starflower, twintuition, Dargonslayer the internet troll, kerfuffles, dick punches and death threats.

Should have stayed in the apartment.

No horror and slightly bizarre you see the authors storytelling skill in full effect with this one
Well narrated with a ending that sums up the main character perfectly highly recommended
