THE INSPIRING SUNDAY TIMES BEST SELLER

Fearne Cotton's voice is familiar to millions, whether that's through television, radio or on her hugely successful Happy Place podcast. Her voice is her career, her livelihood and the way she communicates with her audience and her loved ones. So, when Fearne's doctor told her she was at risk of needing a throat operation followed by two weeks of being unable to speak, she found herself facing a period of unexpected contemplation.

As she considered what silence would mean, Fearne began to think about other times her voice had gone unheard - as a young woman, as 'just the talent', as the foil to louder, more dominant figures. She found herself wondering, at what point do we internalise this message, and start silencing ourselves? When do we swallow down our authentic words to become pleasers and compromisers at the cost of our own happiness or wellbeing? Speak Your Truth dives into all the ways we learn to stay quiet for the wrong reasons, and explores how to find your voice, assert yourself and speak out with confidence.

Brave, vulnerable and deeply personal, Speak Your Truth shares Fearne's compelling story and helps you to shape your own.

Feels more like a long podcast than a book

Fearne is nice and I can identify with much of what she says, particularly family life. There was a lot of content about the pandemic and lockdown which will not age well for the book. There are some useful insights but I’m not walking away feeling much more empowered to “speak my truth.” There was a LOT of name dropping and cross promotion of Fearne’s podcast, books, and other initiatives. There were long sections about BLM, transgender rights, the environment etc that are worthwhile talking points but don’t really fit with what I thought the book was aimed at. They seemed more like required politically correct content. Fearne had an eager upbeat way of talking which works well for radio and for this book, as if she was interviewing herself, but I think this is part of why it felt more like a podcast. Fearne seems like a nice person trying to do her best and I wish her well. I’m sure others will get more out of this book than I did.

I soaked up every word

I have to say everything and I mean everything Fearne said in this book I could correlate back to myself. It is reassuring to hear others feel things the way I do, when others like to tell you your over sensitive, weird, hang onto things for too long because they have barraged you with their own thoughts and do not accept you may have a different thought ! Thank you Fearne fir making me feel I am not so alone

Helped me speak up!

I have a hard time speaking up so not to offend others and this has really given me the confidence to do otherwise. If you struggle with this then you must listen to this book!! It was like listening to a friend.

Exactly what many of us need to hear.

Wonderful truths from a wonderful woman. Learning to Speak Our Truth is something we could all do a little bit more of in our lives. Fearne Cotton leads you through the process, giving you prompts, to help you understand what your truth may be and how you may be able to speak it better. I found listening to this book a real comfort and such good practical advice too. Highly recommended.

Pretty much a personal covid diary….

I was expecting this to have professional content from drs/psychologists etc. Research, scenarios, and actually help one be better at speaking and being heard. I am disappointed that it’s all just the author’s experience and opinions. Most of it is quite obvious and pointless to listen to as it’s nothing to learn. It’s‘woolly’ and repetitive. I do enjoy the podcasts on happy place but felt this was a lockdown diary account just talking about their self and their experience. Sorry if I missed that from the blurb but it wasn’t what I expected. Like another reviewer, I do feel like I wasted my money.

disappointed

I love Fearne and I love Happy Place but I gave up on this because it felt like I was her therapist in a personal session. It didn’t support me to consider, or improve, my own issues around speaking out and irritated me to listen to because the constant use of ‘I’, ‘me’ and ‘myself’ were repetitive to listen to. Perhaps it would be better as a physical book instead. I returned it and will stick to Fearne’s amazing podcasts.

Too much me!

Struggle to finish it which a rare thing for me! I prefer more general information rather than listening to a confident person talking about herself! Seriously, 5 out of 4 sentences starts with "I" .

Listened in the depths of a breakup - this book not only got me back on my feet but it pulled my soul to brand new heights I had not thought imaginable. It allowed me to redefine my self worth , I’m never looking back! Thank you Fearne x
