Publisher's Summary

Building on the foundation laid by Moshe Feldenkrais, Thomas Hanna's groundbreaking work completely redefines the body's potential for withstanding decline. His gentle program for the mind and body proves once and for all that so many problems we accept as inevitable over time - chronic stiffness, bad back, chronic pain, fatigue, and, at times, even high blood pressure - need never occur if we maintain conscious control of nerve and muscle, replacing Sensory-Motor Amnesia with Sensory-Motor Awareness. The good news of Somatic Exercise is that most people simply do not have to become captives of age or injury. Once learned, this lifelong program can help almost anyone maintain the pleasures of a supple, healthy body indefinitely, with only a five-minute routine once a day.

I really hope it works!

The book itself is great; the narrator and the author make you enthusiastic and optimistic about all the messages and exercises. The narrator made the book a pleasant listen and I literally wanted to jump out of the car to try the exercises.

My only qualms with the book was that a lot of the content was describing the success stories and not enough of how to utilize the principles. I have suffered with back pain for years and am eager to try anything that works without drugs or surgery. I don't think that there is enough in this book to 'cure me' but if I see improvement I will definitely pursue somatics classes.

Exercises

The exercises in Chapter 14 were very helpful though at the beginning they were hard to follow.

Excellent exercises

The explanations of SMA and aging were very interesting. The exercises have made me feel great after 5 days so far but taking them slowly . Haven’t started the daily maintenance exercises yet.

Where is the pdf for this book?

Where is the pdf for this book? Mentioned frequently in the text, but cannot find it either in the Kindle app for Android, or on the Audible website using a browser -- which just seems to default to the same interface as used by the Audible app for Android.

This very much lets down an otherwise very good text, as it's impossible to understand what some of it is referring to without visual images. The lack of the pdf is particularly annoying having reached chapter 14, Somatics exercises.
