All in all

It’s good imo. I like stories that have a bit of a faster pace and slow down where needed with good character development. This book has it. Also the narrator wasn’t putting me to sleep which is a bonus. Was a good read and looking forward to the next one.

Great story, magic, and character personality, couldn't stop listening to the story. Waiting for the next book.

bad ass

this book is awesome. we follow the mc rise from the scums while needing to hide the fact that his first skill came from a stolen skill. one where the city lord will kill any one who has this skill. our mc having to find the best skills to hide the fact he has one of the stolen skills. an ruthless uncle who will turn you in for the bounty. A great ride with plenty of actions and twists. couldn't stop listening until I was finished. can't wait for book 2

A new favorite series

Normally I'm very very very critical about books and flaws even small ones. To say this one had me hooked and I thoroughly enjoyed it I'd high praise. I'm up to 1637 audible books and this is one of my new favorites. Hope the series continues in this vein.
It has the right amount of triumphs and set backs, good side characters. The MC wasnt a total idoit but a little soft and good heart whole logical and ruthless at times. When he wins it felt like he deserved it instead of plot armor.
He wasnt OP and doesnt have a cheat skill just luck and hard work meeting.

I will say the description is a bit misleading. What he does to gain skills isnt some new thing no one does or a unique skill to get them from monsters. That's how the description makes it sound but really everyone is either rich enough to buy skills or they hunt monster for their skills. EVERYONE does it. He just takes a few more risks and uses his advantages.
Maybe in future books he might learns stuff to make him unique and OP. Dont know but in this one, he only had a slight advantage over others with lots of disadvantages of knowledge gaps.

I'd fully suggest this for any cultivation, progression, or monster hunter book fan.

Great start!

The world building was really good. The dark, depressing world that we entered was very well depicted. I enjoyed the magic system. I can’t say that I can think of another system that I have encountered like it. There is a lot of growth and advancement. Overall it was a lot of fun and I will follow up with future entries in this series. The narration was really good too.

Great addition to the long list of progression Litrpgs!

Fast pace start, with little pandering to layout, “ the system”.

Easily likable MC, brutally undeterred by the gravity of life in their own shoes and situations. Decent support characters and knowledge about, “the system” as the MC encounters obstacles.

Clearly a YA / Coming of age Litrpg, but still enjoyable as an adult reader. Highly recommend and can’t wait for volume two!!!
