Story
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are no strangers to peculiar cases. Be it the dilemma of an Indian princess on the run, perfectly healthy people dropping dead as divine punishment, being challenged to a duel, a heartbroken and suicidal young man, a beautiful woman claiming to be Mrs. Holmes, a little boy who loves his dog, an old Scottish ghost that traditionally haunts husbands of pregnant women - there is very little they haven't seen (and solved). But, besides regular adventures, there are quite a few questions - Where was Holmes during the Great Hiatus?

Story
From the curious clauses in a miser’s will, to a plea for help on a tiny scrap of paper, these six cases, from the early years of Holmes’s career in the 1880s, present a singular collection of mysteries for the world’s first consulting detective to resolve. What is the significance of the arrival in the post one morning of a cardboard packet of children’s bricks? Who is the man found dying in a deserted warehouse in London’s East End, and what is he doing there?

Story
There is a persistent and incorrect idea, reinforced by countless film misrepresentations, that Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were always staid and dull British chaps of middle years (or older), with Holmes a spry, cranky, and impatient eccentric, and Watson a white-haired and portly Boobus Brittanicus, a la Nigel Bruce. Students of the true and Canonical Sherlock Holmes know this to be a falsehood.

Story
In the year 1903 - the exact moment is now lost to history - Sherlock Holmes proclaimed to the world he was quitting England's Capital to go into retirement on a small, wind-swept farm in the Sussex South Downs. His shocked comrade-in-arms Dr. John H. Watson was later to write, "The decision took me utterly by surprise. I thought I had become an institution around Holmes, like his Stradivarius, or the old, oily black clay pipe and his index books."

It is June 1884, a grey period for both the weather and Sherlock Holmes' mood. A lack of compelling cases has left him bored and close once again to the dull embrace of the needle. At the 11th hour, Inspector Gregson arrives with the promise of an impossible crime to solve. A murder has shattered the bucolic peace of the sleepy arable farmlands of Bedfordshire. Publisher's Summary
The Second Collection of Sherlock Holmes stories from The Davies Brothers, winners of the BAFTA Rocliffe New Writers Showcase (supported by the London Book Fair)... The Centurion Papers is a thrilling new series of Sherlock Holmes mysteries. Too explosive for publication, kept hidden for a hundred years...until now.
- "The Missing Parrot" - When Lady McMillan’s beloved pet parrot, Rodney, goes missing along with the scullery maid, she enlists the help of Holmes and Watson to track down the kidnapper and bring Rodney home. The mystery, however, is far murkier than it first appears, and the stakes are ever so much greater than the safe return of a stolen bird....
- "The Montmartre Murders" - Presumed dead, Sherlock Holmes is on the run from Moriarty’s acolytes... Lying low in Paris, an incognito Holmes finds himself in a city at the cusp of a cultural revolution. When a series of gruesome crucifixions sweeps the arts district of Montmartre, only one man can solve a mystery that will shake the famous City of Lights to its foundations. Even undercover, you can’t keep a great detective down....
- "The Curse of the Baskervilles" - At last, the sequel to The Hound of the Baskervilles!... Watson is presented with a note from a mysterious stranger. Upon it is written one word: Baskerville... Almost a decade after Holmes and Watson faced down the legendary beast on the moors, the duo is pulled into a chilling new mystery when tragedy plagues that cursed family once again. Ghostly voices from the dead, victims savaged on the hills, and a giant hound that is very real indeed.... Can Sherlock Holmes defeat his most villainous foe yet?
Three stunning new episodes in the Sherlock Holmes canon from Dr Watson’s recently found Centurion Papers - uncovered by The Davies Brothers, authors of Hudson James and the Baker Street Legacy.

Another good collection of Holmes pastiches
This second collection of pastiches by the Davies Brothers is stronger than the first. Whereas the first collection suffered from a very weak final story, and multiple technical issues, each entry in this edition is strong with only a scattering of technical problems. Overall, this is a good collection that most Sherlock Holmes fans should enjoy, especially the homage to The Hound of the Baskervilles which rounds this book out so well.
