Publisher's summary

I'm stuck in a straight guy's apartment. How am I supposed to deal with this?

I hadn't planned on living with Ross very long. I just needed a place to stay to get on my feet after a bad breakup, and happened to be friends with his sister. But when the shelter-in-place order comes down, not only do I lose any chance of finding my own space, my bartending job dries up, too.

And Ross is taking this order very seriously. He grew up in a family of Montana doomsday preppers, and his rules are very clear: We've got three months of food, and neither of us is leaving - for any reason. I don't have a ton of money, and there are bills to pay. But there are a few different ways to make some cash online, especially when the rest of the world is shut inside, too, and need something to entertain them.

Who would have imagined I would end up on a cam site entertaining guys from all over the world just by being myself and having fun? So long as I wait until Ross goes to sleep before I log on, anyway. I definitely do not want him to know what I'm up to on his couch.

But Ross is full of surprises, it turns out. And I guess I am, too. Because, what I end up sharing with him is something I've never shared with anyone before. I just worry that things are about to get very complicated. Because, every gay boy knows the cardinal rule: Never, ever fall for the straight guy.

Shelter in Place is a lighthearted, low-angst start to the Shelter series, which is best listened to in order. It ends with a HFN and no cliff-hanger, but is only the start of an adorable, kinky little family that will grow over three books. This book contains low-protocol explorations of BDSM, humiliation play, a brief experiment with urination, exhibitionism, and nonstop scorching-hot dialogue.

Hot damn, is this an amazing read/listen!

Truth be told, I'd listened to the sample audio of this book countless times and passed it over because I found the quality of it to be less than desirable. On top of that, I am very narrator driven with the books I listen to because I only exclusively read the audiobook, and narrators make or break a story for me. The very beginning of this book starts out with an extremely slow Southern drawl, combined with a very fast-paced chatter of the other MC. it's what made me decide not to read this book time and time again. Finally, after hearing so many people recommend this title all in one day on various FB pages, I decided to bite the bullet and just listen. Thankfully, it was just the opening scene of the book that had the slow cadence of that one character, but the audio quality was still lacking. Not sure why I didn't think of it before but as I started the second chapter, I thought maybe there would be an equalizer app that I could download to my phone to take some of that echoing bass tone out of the audio that was making it so difficult for me to listen to. Jackpot, because that's exactly what I was able to do! It didn't make the audio perfect by any means, but at least for my ears, it made it able for me to listen too much easier, and OMG am I glad it did because holy hell... This is like top 3 for the sexiest, hottest, most well written gay-for-you books I've ever read... and that's my favorite trope so that's saying a whole damn lot LOL. Never have I ever listened to a book that was 80% sex and yet still so well-written that it's now one of my favorite love stories lol. I also rarely leave written reviews because I'm so verbose and I don't want to bore people to death, so take that as a sign as well that you absolutely need to be listening to this audiobook, people! lol. as for Zachary Zaba oh, he is a new narrator to me and while I had apprehensions going into it based on the quality of the audio, by the end of the fourth chapter - combined with my equalizer app - I had already completely forgotten that I was initially apprehensive to begin with. I will definitely without a doubt be checking out more of his narrations. but seriously... Bravo Simon, Bravo! You have made a new fan out of me for sure!

I loved this story and it's perfect in audio too

I loved reading this book so I was more then happy when it came out in audio.

The first few minutes of the audio was a bit blurry and I thought I'll DNF it if it won't change, but hopefully it had changed. The narrator is new to me and first I got a few probleme with the narration but after a while I really enjoyed it and I got lost in the story real fast.

The story itself is amazing and it's really good in audio too. I liked listening to Ross and Cal's story, both voice were great.

I hope the next book comes out in audio too, because I can't wait to listen to that too!

Here's my earlier review about the ebook:

When I started this book I never in a million years thought this would be this awesome!

The story takes place in this hell we call life now - I mean with the COVID-19. And this was my first surprise because I was curious which author/story will be the first about this.

Ross and Cal were so cool, loved both of them. This kind of slow-burn is the best. Cal wanted everything from his straight roommate, while Ross didn't know he wanted and needed the same. They were perfect together.
The whole stuff how Cal managed to make money was hilarious and so awesome. Loved this video/live porn thing and I couldn't wait for Ross to find out - and OMG how good it was, like holy helllll sooooo good and HOT.

The best about this book is the romance - you got all the filthy scenes with hot conversations, and you think it's all about the sex. I mean yeah, there were many sex, cum and nakedness like in every page, but it was so cute at the same time, because they were finding their true self and fall in love with each other.
And yes, the erotica was amazing and loved it, but the romance was the best. This is the perfect book where there is enough amount of erotica and romance.

The D/S thing, the humiliaton and all those stuff - just yummy. And Matty, ahhh cute Matty. (I read the freebie with Matty too, and oh goooood so good! Little Matty is the cutest! And loved Cal and Ross together, Daddy Ross and big brother Cal, awwwww♥)

So yeah, I loved it soo much! Perfect. Couldn't put it down, and I just can't wait for the next book. I'm so curious what will happen next.

Highly recommend it!

Shelter in Place

I love it.

I was gifted a copy of the book a long time ago and subsequently (finally) bought it as well. I was also gifted this copy of the audiobook by the author.

I love Simon’s books and wish that the third book would have come to fruition but love the duet as is.

This is the start of Ross and Cal’s journey and I loved every minute of it.

Highly recommend.

Intensely Hot and A Great Story Too!

Simon Strange's Shelter In Place was a wonderful surprise for me. I had thought I'd be getting a lot of sex and very little story, but what I found was a lot of sex and a wonderful story about two men who are stuck together for the quarantine and find themselves in each other. Cal loses his job and becomes a cam boy, and his clients beg him to ask his straight roommate to join him on camera. But Cal has been hurt in the past by his ex, and he's scared of what could happen if he asks the straight guy who's letting him crash on his couch to have sex. During the book, Cal and Ross both have to find the courage to face their fears to keep the perfect and perfectly kinky relationship they develop. The intense sex scenes are balanced by such care and sweet feelings, even within some of the cam scenes, that I found myself really falling in love with Cal and Ross as well as some of the supporting characters.

Zachary Zaba is a new narrator to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to his performance. I loved his voice for Cal--very sweet and earnest. Ross has a Montana accent and a deeper voice, and is so hot when he's being firm with Cal! I highly recommend this title and I'm really hoping Zachary is already working on recording Shelter 2!
