Publisher's Summary

An Alex King prequel, set 17 years before The Contract Man.

In the last days before signing the peace agreement, an IRA splinter cell mounts an operation on the British mainland using English criminals. This unprecedented move intrigues MI6, and they assume command of MI5’s surveillance operation.

A career criminal is released from prison and aims to win back the wife and child his sentence has cost him, but before he can, he is forced back into his old world. The stakes have changed, and his family have become leverage for the most ruthless people imaginable.

A woman imprisoned in an abusive relationship, desperate to escape with her son and rekindle her past, becomes the pawn in a deadly world of deception, violence, and retribution.

A clandestine wing of the secret intelligence service tests its newest recruit. Alex King has trained and operated in the shadowy world of intelligence, and now, he must kill for his country, but before he can, he needs to discover more about the men he has been sent to kill.

Terrible

Has Shadows of Good Friday put you off other books in this genre?

No

How did the narrator detract from the book?

American accent, stilted delivery, very poor depiction of the story and, most of all very poor UK accents.

fancy getting an American to narrate a book about the IRA! Plus his lack of pronunciation of the English words and halting delivery spoiled a cracking story,

Spoilt story

I persevered to about a quarter way through but the narration completely spoilt it for me. It sounded automated, dreadful accents and the wrong age group for the characters. I’m going to try one more Alex King book as the stories are so gripping with great characters

Worst narration ever!

Never written a review on here before but the narration on this book is so bad I had to. I’ve had to stop listening half way through the first chapter or Alexa would have gotten thrown through the window.
What a waste of money. Having read most of the reviews on this book they all complain about the narration. Please could someone else narrate this book? If I were the author I would be pretty annoyed at the comments.

Worst Narrator

I've listen to many audio books and this is the first time I've been compelled to leave a review... This is quite possible the worst narrator I've heard! I have no idea why he thought his stupid, stilted speech was necessary?! completely ruined the book for me, to the point that I had to stop after a few chapters. So disappointed.

Where did you find this terrible narrator?

I like the Alex King character. I like Bateman.
If I hadn’t wanted to understand what was happening I’d have stopped listening. The narrator didn’t have a basic grasp of the English language and it made the whole thing very off putting.
Sorry Mr Kearns but I will never listen to anything you narrate again.

Narrator research needed

The narration is terrible, broken sentences and miss pronunciation absolutely spoil this within a great series! Researching pronunciation would permit Joseph to understand that this story is set in the UK and is not an American series! Annoyingly if you want to get the best from the series you have to put up with this annoying narration, which spoils the book entirely!
