Not all is as it seems.

Not as good as the first novel, but entertaining nevertheless. Some really good chapters kept me going. I will definitely be reading/ listening to the next in the series. Alex comes across as a very likable assassin. Hopefully more depth to him next novel.

spoiled

Narrator devalues book.
How many staged accents/lisps can you cram into one book!!
Too many unfortunately.

Laughable

The second book in the Alex King series could and should have been so much better.
Definitely a story that a reader would have enjoyed, however as a listener (and I have over 100 books now in my library) this was undoubtedly the worst narration I've ever heard.
The attempt at the different accents was outrageously laughable, the Scottish accents were nearer Islamabad than Irvine and the Welsh was more Mumbai than Merthyr.
The Russian bad guys sounded like Silas Greenback and his crows from Dangermouse, the female lead was truly awful and our macho SAS trained agent sounded like Julian Clarys camper brother.
Don't go near this as an audio book, I'd recommend it in paperback only.

Poor Narrator

the narrator was far from good to start. Then halfway through the book we are reintroduced to our hardman. main character who has a voice and accent that is ridiculous.

Awful voice over spoils the book.

Listened to the first book in the series and loved it and it was very well read and performed, this is the second book and a decent story but the narrator absolutely destroys it! The main character in the first book was a tough sounding Londoner, in this book sadly he sounds like the voice over from the Flumps and his accents are cringeworthy, i was really excited to have found this series but sadly this will be the last I will buy due to the awful narrator.

great story, slaughtered by terrible narration.

Narration in Book 1 was poor, this was another level of dire. Puts me off going onto next book!

Great story but ..............

The story was excellent, kept you wanting to hear more and some intriguing twists and turns. There was however a fly in the ointment, the narrator. Don't get me wrong, When he was just narrating he was excellent but when he spoke in character it was cringeworthy. The main male character sounded like Keith Lemon and it was very hard to take him seriously as a tough assassin. Some of the other characters were as bad, Most regional accents were abused but If your welsh please make sure your blood pressure doesn't get too high, i am not Welsh and even I felt insulted for you

if you can possibly bear with the dreadful accents it is a great story and well worth listening to

Zero Star Narrator.

I can’t believe the author allowed this to be released, the narrator tried to give every character an accent and not a single one sounded right, he even tried a speech impairment ! What era is he living in ? He got so confused himself with who was West Country, who was North East, who was London and who was male and who was female that I spent more time trying to work that out than concentrating on the story. Totally ruined a book. Is there any way of getting a refund Audible?

Good story

Well written and good progression with enough twists and turns to keep me interested, ending was a little mild though.

hmmmmm

enjoyed the story, but changing the narrator from book one makes the character no where near as enjoyable to listen to, king sounded like a proper hard ex sas guy in book 1 ,book 2 he sounds like a pusssy...
