Laughable

The second book in the Alex King series could and should have been so much better.
Definitely a story that a reader would have enjoyed, however as a listener (and I have over 100 books now in my library) this was undoubtedly the worst narration I've ever heard.
The attempt at the different accents was outrageously laughable, the Scottish accents were nearer Islamabad than Irvine and the Welsh was more Mumbai than Merthyr.
The Russian bad guys sounded like Silas Greenback and his crows from Dangermouse, the female lead was truly awful and our macho SAS trained agent sounded like Julian Clarys camper brother.
Don't go near this as an audio book, I'd recommend it in paperback only.

the story is ok

the story is OK but the narration is terrible whoever read this book thought they were in a carry on film and the accents are hilariously bad totally spoils the book i really don't know why they didn't just keep the same narrator as last time and just get him better recording equipment. my advice would be give this a miss and just read the book itll be more enjoyable that way

Poor Narrator

the narrator was far from good to start. Then halfway through the book we are reintroduced to our hardman. main character who has a voice and accent that is ridiculous.

Entertaining

I say entertaining if only for the fact that the narrator made our "hero" sound like Keith Lemon. and some of his pronunciation left me cringing. Does no one proof listen to these broadcasts. Story was good although I find it difficult to believe our security services would be that inept.

Great story

If I had read this book rather than listened to it it wouldn't be a problem. The first book Alex was a tough Cockney Jason Statham type, the second book he is a camp Ant & Dec Geordie.
This totally ruined my experience

The wrong narrator

I really liked the first book. I was immediately disappointed with this one though. The narrator was terrible. He was trying to do different voices for the characters but just couldn't pull off any of the accents at all. This made it confusing as he would sometimes use one terrible accent for another character after having just used in for the previous one. He wasn't acknowledging the tones needed either to enhance drama so a dramatic statement would be spoken in a flat or incorrect tonal context. I nearly gave up on it several times and considered returning the book. This would have been the first time I would have done this, but I decided to persevere through gritted teeth in order to take up the next book in series. Hopefully the next one will have a different narrator.
