Very well done, Dr. Ray. The book is informative and encouraging. Changing your life will require independent work, a notebook, and preferably a support person. In addition to providing reasoning and techniques, Dr. Ray reminds us that we are each worthy of having likes and dislikes, and of having our own lives. Boundaries are about self protection, self support, and self determination. We get to choose and follow our own path. Boundaries are part of defining that path.

Helpful.

I truly enjoyed listening to Rebecca speak about boundaries and the various aspects of it. I can relate to certain things mentioned and the audio book was easy to understand.

The best friend advice everyone needs in their life

All too often takers exploit givers, this book allows the givers to set boundaries calmly, without guilt and with working examples.

We all need a Dr Rebecca Ray in our lives, the best friend everyone wished they had!

The journey of removing toxic people from your life and developing your self esteem isn’t quick or easy, but it’s worth it.

I wish I’d had this book 5 years ago when I embarked on this journey, I needed the road map this provides.

I don’t think I’ll listen once, twice, or three times… I think it’ll be an audio book that I regularly dive into to remind myself of my inner leader and how strong she (I) can be.

I’ve already recommended the book to 3 friends and shared the knowledge I’ve gained.

Rebecca, Thank you for writing such a helpful and clear guide to boundaries. It’s no exaggeration to say it’s a life changing read.

Brilliant - got so much out of it

This book is especially relevant for those who struggle to be assertive or have observed red flags in relationships and need support as to what to do about them. A must read for those in fractured relationships.

Re-writing my boundaries from my Inner Leader

I read this book because it changed the life of someone I deeply respect. I personally didn’t think I would get much out of this book, due to already having a robust understanding and implementation of healthy boundaries and communication skills.

However, one really incredible sentence stood out to me, and that was, “If you’re offended by my boundaries, then you are probably one of the reasons why I need them”. I never considered the different archetypes, from which boundaries are created. It was really quite fascinating to discover my primary archetype is Guardian. Made me think some of the healthy and unhealthy scripts I have put in place, that inspired my own boundaries to be created and become calcified over the years. It made me question the truth behind each boundary, and whether if it’s worth clinging to them. Would clinging to boundaries, not made by my Inner Leader, help me move toward the life direction that I want to go?

Ray dives into values as well, with some really thought provoking questions that are rapid fired at the reader, one after the other. There almost needs to be an accompanying workbook be able to properly process and identify which archetype governs which areas of your life. I was joyfully surprised at the case study responses Ray gave to family and friend situations, around giving and expectation, and articulated some of the most concise responses to those events I have ever read. It really gave me something practical to work with.

This is a book anyone and everyone can learn from, but is probably more suited to someone finding themselves and reasserting their boundaries if they feel lost in their identity, and need clarity. It will naturally awaken your Inner Leader if you are open to it.

Great Resource Which I Needed!

Hard to follow.

I actually quite enjoyed the first few chapters, but by chapter 4 and 5 I found it really hard to follow. There were too many names for different things - inner leader, rebel, child, refuser, etc. Just too many analogies and names for inner beings or parts for me to follow along with on my drive.
It's a shame because I had a solid 8 hour drive lined up to listen to it.

Also, I tend to agree that maybe it would have been better as a physical text, not an audio texts, even just based on the lists and questions in the first few chapters. Hearing a massive list of random adjectives did not spark any incite or joy for me while listening. Again, it may have made it better, but I still probably wouldn't recommend the text- whether it were written or audio.

I liked the way it was narrated, I just wasn't stimulated by the text and I found the seemingly random names for everything difficult to follow.

Helpful and well articulated, sadly too fast

Thank you! This is a fantastic piece of work I’ll read again - read, so I can better access the questions and exercises mentioned. The narration was too fast for me at times, there were almost no pauses and some editing mistakes (though those aren’t a big deal). I think it would be a great idea to provide a PDF with the exercises/boosters alongside the audio book. Apologies if that exists and I couldn’t find it :)

Well written as a book book rather than spoken book

Written in an easy to read, pragmatic format
I would have rather bought the hard copy of the book.
From an informative perspective, I can absolutely see why it has the great reviews, it written in digestible chunks and well organised.
Dr Ray is thorough, knowledgeable and diligent.
She cares

As an audible book, I don’t see myself finishing it. I feel like I am being read a shopping list.

A must read for all adults.

This book clearly states how you can create and maintain boundaries. Dr Ray makes it clear how this can help maintain healthy relationships. This book is also based on psychology which is great for those who do not want faith based help.
