Publisher's summary

With Single Mothers Raising Sons in a Fatherless Home, Dr. William James brings his experience to bear upon the serious topic of boys being raised in homes in which fathers are not present. He knows all too well that absent a strong male presence in their lives to show them what our society expects of a man, to teach them how to stand up to everyday challenges and succeed, and to model the type of behavior that leads to dignity, respect, resiliency, and honor, young boys are susceptible to seek belongingness and self-identity by means often associated with poor decision making and affiliation with peer groups that engage in antisocial behavior and activity.

Here in this report, Dr. James presents actual stories of real mothers and their sons. Each story deals with a different stage of a boy's life and development, illustrates the challenges that go along with those stages, includes deep and honest discussion as to what went wrong and why, and then follows up with insight and strategies for taking proactive measures to get ahead of these issues before they become reality.

As a mother of a son in a fatherless home, or even if you just know of someone in this situation and care enough to want to make a difference, listening to this report is the first step to getting involved.

not helpful in advice or lessons in raising my 6 year old boy. if your boy is a teen in trouble, it's probably good advice. not helpful in raising a small child.

insightful

It was not quite what I was expecting. But it was very informative and helped me become aware of single Mother's who deal with bigger struggles. Pinner city. there were some guiding principles that I took away from this. That I feel I can apply to my current situation as a single mother.

A very real topic

Although not the best book if you're looking for something fun or thrilling to listen to, this report is a thoroughly informative account of the need-to-knows dealing with being a single mother to boys. I cannot imagine what the task feels like, but Angel Clark's serious voice makes the contents of the book so real and important to know.
