Publisher's summary

The Bhagavad Gita is a gem so precious in India's spiritual treasury that many regard it not as a volume of sacred verse, but as a living manifestation of the Divine. In the summer of 1974, inside a balmy Boulder, Colorado, warehouse that served as a main hall of a fledgling Naropa Institute, some say a minor miracle occured: The reawakening of the Gita's living presence, as it unfolded in a series of wisdom teachings led by Ram Dass. With Love, Service, Devotion, and the Ultimate Surrender, you are invited to experience these legendary gatherings.

A good look at a real life of a teacher

I enjoyed a real life look at someone who is supposed to be a guide for others. Here the author uses the Botagveti to talk about his life walking us through it. I enjoyed going through it step by step and while listening I saw the parallels in my own life. In many ways it answered some of the questions in my own life. I have found myself giving up more and more control surrendering more and more. I understand why this is occurring at this time in my life. I found this profound and listening to Caroline Myss ‘The Language of Archetypes’ helped even more.

What’s more here is someone who pushed in one direction to learn they needed to go in another direction which they did. Yet, all the while they pushed they learned and someone was there to patiently wait on them and help them which we would commonly call a guru/guide. I understand this and why it’s occurring.

Go through this book and listen to the individual lessons and you will learn much. I see the parallels here between the Saints of the Catholic church where they said they embraced the most irritating people in their lives. I see why they come into my life and what I learn from them is immense! This is just one example from the book! There are so many others I could type pages, but that would ruin it for you! So, enjoy the book and enjoy changing your life.

If you have an interest in Indian philosophy, I highly recommend this book. It is a unique perspective, eloquently described, and a fascinating description of India’s greatest text.

Not your Grandpa's Gita Commentary

Ram Dass delivers the Dharma in riveting spades here, as ever. He discussed the Gita to some extent, but also discusses all of the best parts of his sadhana and ties it together in the end. If you're unfamiliar with Ram Dass, you will be pleasantly surprised and if you open yourself to the teachings, they're there to be taught. Ram, Ram, Ram, Ram...

I listen to this over and over, his brilliance and authenticity, in his own spoken word, so comforting.

Wow!!! An American mystic.

Ram Dass delivers from his heart the path to Consciousness, God and Love. Having followed a spiritual journey for many years it was delightful to find in a 1974 recording a history that somewhat parallels my journey and it's many twists and turns. In 1974 I would have thought he was out to lunch, not knowing that in 2011 I would love to be lunching with him discussing this path. I especially love knowing that he simply taught and was not invested in Ego's rewards or worried about what the future would bring. This is a treasure, read in his own young, strong voice. Namaste
