Publisher's summary

Advice for graduates and reflections on staying true to yourself from the beloved Gilmore Girls actress and New York Times best-selling author of the memoir Talking as Fast as I Can and the novel Someday, Someday, Maybe.

"If you're not where you want to be on this day - don't worry about it. Because the spotlight aspect of life? That's not the satisfying part."

In this expansion of her 2017 commencement speech at her hometown Langley High, Lauren Graham reflects in her hilarious, relatable voice on growing up, pursuing your dreams, and living in the here and now. "Whatever path you choose, whatever career you decide to go after, the important thing," she writes, "is that you keep finding joy in what you're doing, especially when the joy isn't finding you."

She reminds us to be curious and compassionate, no matter where life takes you. "Whether you hope to be an actor or a politician or a mathematician, I've learned that empathy and kindness are your most valuable tools." Grounded and inspiring, this is Graham's road map to a happy life: "Be a fan, not a theater critic."

Too short

I absolutely love and adore Lauren graham. I preordered this thinking it was an ‘expanded’ version of the graduation speech. If I’d known it was only 28 minutes, I would not have purchased it for $7.85.

Not a Book

Would you try another book from Lauren Graham and/or Lauren Graham?

Of course. Lauren is an excellent writer. This however was an essay, not a book.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

#ChooseJoy ❤️

No, she doesn't sing or dance or do a bit. Look to Will Farrell for such a performance.

Lauren delivers timeless advice, not only for graduates, but for everyone - especially when in need of a positive perspective.

Will definitely come back to this one over and over again.

short sweet and to the point!

I love Lauren Graham, and everything about her. She knows how to put things in perspective and with a smile. I wish I had a live Lauren Graham in my life as these are things we should all be told once in a while in our lives. As per now I will settle with returning to her books once in a while and re-hearing he kind and powerful word. Thank you Lauren Graham ❤️

Unexpected gem

I enjoyed listening to Lauren Graham. She was animated and descriptive. Easy to listen too. I really don't know what I was expecting, Lauren told a story about her life- living- real life real experience that was relatable. She was not barking in your face, instead a simple story that explained and portrayed the title of this book.

Short, but good

I was looking forward to this book because anything by Lauren Graham is a must read for me! I have enjoyed her other two books, so even though this was only a short story based on a speech she gave, I knew I wanted to read it.
