Publisher's summary

American English is one of the most difficult languages in the world to master, so I created Accent: American to help foreign speakers learn how to speak as close to native as possible. Accent: American will get you started with properly pronouncing consonant, vowel, and diphthong sounds. Accent: American is also designed to help the regional speaker attain professional, non-regionalized speech.

Whether your goals are social or professional, Accent: American will effectively teach you how to articulate Standard American English clearly and confidently. American English may be difficult, but I've done my best with this book to make it simple, easy, and fun for everyone.

It fixed my accent!

I’ve been struggling with American pronunciation for a few years, since I moved to US. I’m Russian, but my accent was a crazy mixture of I-don’t-know-what. It didn’t sound like Russian but it didn’t sound like English either!
I’ve been listening to this book and practicing it while driving. Here are a few tips:
1) This book is for those who speaks English already; all the explanations are in English and the author uses tons of words in practice sentences
2) The practice words / sentences are pretty fast but you can always go 10 seconds back (instead of going back to the beginning of the chapter) and try again
3) I actually loved the fact that it’s so fast - in some other audio courses slow drills were so annoying!
4) I’m going to go though this book again and again just to practice
5) The major improvement for me was differentiating between sounds which are very similar to each other or which seemed similar to me just because in my language certain sounds simply don’t exist. That made duplication way easier.
6) I also figured how words may sound different depending on their position in the sentence and other factors.
7) After 1/2 of this book I started paying attention to all the sounds, not just to the one being practiced.
Overall, I can understand people way better now and they can understand me. It’s such a change and such a relief! A few years of “sorry? say it again? you mean blah?” - and now they just get it. Mostly. :)
I definitely recommend it. Don’t cut it short, just do all the drills even if you know some sounds perfectly. Just do it.

Cover all the bases

Good for someone like me who are facing difficulties pronouncing R and Th sounds. This book teaches how to prepare and move your tongue and lips. Very helpful.

Outstanding

If you look up "excellence" in the dictionary you'll see a photo of Mr. Muñoz. He is truly talented and has created an outstanding work. His articulation and American accent are impeccable. He has you doing different exercises throughout. Even simply listening is helpful.

ok, for practising the essentials

There should be 1 to 2 sec more time between the practise sentenses. Otherwise ok.

Great way to improve your accent

Great way to practice and improve your accent. The author makes your repeat words and sentences throughout the book which I believe is an efficient way to practice.
