An effective and practical program based on the Paleo lifestyle, customized to fit your needs! As the Paleo movement sweeps the nation, the health benefits of following the lifestyle of our hunter-gatherer forebears are undeniable. But what happens when we hit a wall and weight loss stalls, energy flags, or we're tired of restricted eating? We're not cavemen anymore, so why should we follow a strict caveman diet? In Your Personal Paleo Code, Chris Kresser uses the Paleo diet as a baseline from which you can tailor the ideal three-step program - Reset, Rebuild, Revive - to fit your lifestyle, body type, genetic blueprint, and individual needs.
What if we can make ourselves, our communities, and our planet healthier all at the same time by moving our bodies more? Movement Matters is a collection of essays in which biomechanist Katy Bowman continues her groundbreaking investigation of the mechanics of our sedentary culture and the profound potential of human movement. Here she widens her message and invites us to consider our personal relationship with sedentarism, privilege, and nature.
Chronic disease is shortening our lifespan, destroying our quality of life, bankrupting governments, and threatening the health of future generations. Sadly, conventional medicine, with its focus on managing symptoms, has failed to address this challenge. The result is burned-out physicians, a sicker population, and a broken healthcare system. In Unconventional Medicine, Chris Kresser presents a plan to reverse this dangerous trend.
Do you struggle to lose weight and get healthy? Are you playing the blame game and berating yourself for "cheating" on your diet? This struggle should come as no surprise, as we are genetically wired to eat more and move less, the exact opposite of the advice we are often given. Now there is a more customized weight loss solution that works with your body, a solution based not on arbitrary restriction of foods but on what works for you.
Popular nutritionist Nora Gedgaudas returns with advice that may sound counterintuitive: eat fat to burn fat. In her new book, Primal Fat Burner, she explains the benefits and science behind a ketogenic diet: It switches your metabolism from running on sugars to running on healthy fats. As Gedgaudas reveals, numerous studies in recent years have refuted the previously promoted anti-saturated fat and anti-cholesterol agenda. Now, Gedgaudas explains, science shows that fat isn't a no-no but rather a yes-yes.
People mistakenly think that they need to eat less and exercise more to create a calorie deficit in order to lose weight. This is not how diet and exercise helps with weight loss. A well-formulated keto-adapted diet along with proper exercise builds muscle and muscle builds mitochondria. It is in the mitochondria where fat is oxidized so you can keep your cells and liver insulin sensitized. Weight loss and health is about healthy mitochondria and about controlling hormones and specifically insulin.

The Strange Order of Things is a pathbreaking investigation into homeostasis, the condition that regulates human physiology within the range that makes possible not only the survival but also the flourishing of life. Antonio Damasio makes clear that we descend biologically, psychologically, and even socially from a long lineage that begins with single living cells; that our minds and cultures are linked by an invisible thread to the ways and means of ancient unicellular life and other primitive life-forms.
Barefoot enthusiasts say ditching your shoes is essential for optimal whole-body function. Doctors say minimalist shoes cause injury. Who's right? What if they both are?
Physician and biochemist Cate Shanahan, MD, examined diets around the world known to help people live longer, healthier lives - diets like the Mediterranean, Okinawa, and Blue Zone - and identified the four common nutritional habits, developed over millennia, that unfailingly produce strong, healthy, intelligent children and active, vital elders generation after generation. These four nutritional strategies - fresh food, fermented and sprouted foods, meat cooked on the bone, and organ meats - form the basis of the Human Diet.
For the last decade, Silicon Valley entrepreneur Dave Asprey has worked with world-renowned doctors and scientists to uncover the latest, most innovative methods for making humans perform better - a process known as "biohacking". In his first book, The Bulletproof Diet, he shared his biohacking tips for taking control of your own biology. Now, in Head Strong, Asprey shows listeners how to biohack their way to sharper, smarter, faster, more resilient brains.
Leading health blogger Jimmy Moore and researcher and internist Dr. Eric C. Westman join forces again to explain the powerful therapeutic effects of a ketogenic diet—one that combines a customized carbohydrate restriction, moderation of protein intake, and real food-based fats—which is emerging in the scientific literature as a means for improving a wide range of diseases, from Type 2 diabetes to Alzheimer's and more. Simply eating a low-carb diet alone isn't enough, and Moore and Westman tell you why. Have you looked at a low-carb diet simply as a means to lose weight? What if you learned that combining a low-carb nutritional approach with a high fat intake produces a powerful therapeutic effect on a wide variety of health conditions that most people think requires medication to control? Are You Hyperconnected... and Disconnected? The frenetic pace of modern life distracts us from a painful truth: we are disconnected. Disconnected from our DNA recipe, forged through the selection pressure of human evolution, to enjoy health, happiness, and peace of mind. Horns, office chatter, and whirring machines batter our ears with incessant noise. Artificial light and digital stimulation overstress our nervous systems day and night. Traffic jams, long lines, interruptions, distractions, and big egos pervade daily life in such a manner that we don't even realize the piece - or rather the peace - that's gone missing.

Would you try another book from Mark Sisson and/or Stephen Schlepmo?
Not if S. Schlepmo is reading. His performance is so bad that it undermines my confidence in the material.
What did you like best about this story?
Good practical information that is relatively easy to adopt.
Would you be willing to try another one of Stephen Schlepmo’s performances?
No, he is way below the standard that I expect based on previous audio books. He fails on every level.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
N/A

Almost returned it because of the narrator. But I forced myself through it and am happy to get the info.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Primal Connection to be better than the print version?
No. The narration was very amateurish and the pronunciation of some words was so off that it took me a minute to figure out what he was saying.
for example: ennui. Pronounced EN-ooo-EE instead of the correct ON-wee.
Any word over two syllables was subject to emphasis in odd places or just got mangled. hiatus = HE-ate-us? Really?
I found it very distracting and annoying. The narrator's voice is pleasant enough but he sounded like someone in remedial English reading aloud to the class. If you can tolerate that, great!
How could the performance have been better?
PLEASE, for goodness sake, don't just GUESS how to pronounce things! Ugh.
Any additional comments?
The content and information were good but I'll probably wind up reading it instead.

The information presented is absolutely wonderful--very thorough, detailed, and scientifically backed. The narrator, however, was atrocious. He chortles his way through a preschool-style reading of the book with several mispronunciations, and some very awkward syntactic breaks.

I've followed Mark for close to a decade now and thought I knew a lot about primal living. After listening to this book, I could feel the excitement well up from envisioning myself doing what Mark suggests - living life closer to our genetic calling.
This was a refreshing look at what had become dull monotony of adulthood and has provided me a door wide open to possibility.
I love this man's work!

Great content but did not like me narrator as he sounded gay and spoke too fast.
