Publisher's Summary

The highly anticipated coming-of-age story for the world's greatest super hero: Wonder Woman. By the number one New York Times best-selling author Leigh Bardugo.

She will become one of the world's greatest heroes: Wonder Woman. But first she is Diana, Princess of the Amazons. And her fight is just beginning....

Diana longs to prove herself to her legendary warrior sisters. But when the opportunity finally comes, she throws away her chance at glory and breaks Amazon law - risking exile - to save a mere mortal. Even worse, Alia Keralis is no ordinary girl, and with this single brave act Diana may have doomed the world.

Alia just wanted to escape her overprotective brother with a semester at sea. She doesn't know she is being hunted. When a bomb detonates aboard her ship, Alia is rescued by a mysterious girl of extraordinary strength and forced to confront a horrible truth: Alia is a Warbringer - a direct descendant of the infamous Helen of Troy, fated to bring about an age of bloodshed and misery.

Together, Diana and Alia will face an army of enemies - mortal and divine - determined to either destroy or possess the Warbringer. If they have any hope of saving both their worlds, they will have to stand side by side against the tide of war.

    "Thoroughly Enjoyable! "

This was even better than I thought it would be, not than I expected something less than incredible from Leigh Bardugo. She's one of my favorites, but there are so many superhero remakes, that it often worries me.

I guess I feel like sometimes there's a limit when it comes to superhero stories, a point at which they start to seem repetitive or like there's too much of the same, which is why I liked this so much. This entire story is pre-Wonder Woman. It's just about Diana when she's young, and it includes some fascinating characters and enjoyable friendships.

There's plenty of intrigue and action scenes to keep things exciting, and the side characters are quirky, diverse, and lovable. The villain is well-developed. I listened to the audiobook, which was very good and narrated by Mozhan Marno.

This story only increased my fascination with Wonder Woman, and I continue to feel very sorry for myself that I can't live on Themyscira.

    "slow start, good ending"

initially it was good, then as the author tried to build too much love story that was not necessary and started to bog down and the important points got a little lost in the superfluous, but it ended on a high note. The narrator was fantastic and would buy books for this narrator again Worth the credit

"Very entertaining and full of action."

To get ready for the Wonder Woman movie, I figured I should listen to this book first. Normally I am not much into superheroes and such fantasy, but I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the plot and the action. I look forward to the next book, if there is one.

I am a life long fan and am going to look for more books from this author. This is a story that will hook you from the very beginning and not let you go. It’s everything a super hero story should be.

    "Not what I expected..."

This was not the traditional Wonder Woman story I was expecting. I know Wonder Woman was basically a teenager but I found her whiny at times. The story stated out very slow and didn't really grab my attention. I thought that the performance was good though and the story did pick up eventually. I think it just wasn't for me overall. I will say that my teenagers in the car with me enjoyed it. They are hoping for a sequal.

"Slow to start, but ultimately excellent!"

The story was a bit slow to start and I nearly bailed, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. About halfway through the story gets going and I was fully engaged with the high stakes quest. The author and narrator both created memorable, compelling characters and the varied forms of courage and friendship represented were refreshing!

"No Better Way to Start a Series"

Loved this rendition of Wonder Woman. It strays away from the DCEU, but that part doesn't really matter. Taking in the younger, teenage Diana and her quest to try and find her own place and save mortals from their warring fate was a unique perspective and completely fun. Diana's candid nature and her intelligence bring charming if not inspiring moments to this novel. I hope there will be more one day!

"Wonder Woman Review ***Contains some SPOILERS***"

I’ve never read the Wonder Woman comics so this review is from my interpretation.  I thought the book was OK, there was some good things I thought and some really disappointing parts.  I’ll start with some things I disliked and then what I liked.

    1.       What I didn’t like

    a.       Diana’s team of young adults seemed smarter than they should be, but then have the typical excruciating teenage conversations and mannerisms.

    b.      Diana’s team felt like it was put together to indoctrinate her with social justice awareness.  It just happens to have the right mix of minorities who experience typical discrimination.  I think any injustice could have been used instead to show more creativity.  Diana had good overall knowledge of issues affecting man’s world so one could assume she would be aware of social justice issues as well.

    c.       Diana’s small team just happens to have a lesbian who keeps reminding us of it at what felt like every opportunity.

    d.      From the beginning of the story, you get the sense that there was something special about her.  She was created from clay, blessed by the gods, the only one on Themyscira who has never died and able to bargain with gods.  Then she end up dying and rising from the dead to become a true Amazon like her sisters.   I think that it took something away from what made Diana unique.  I think that having her, and her powers, grow naturally into the powerful woman she will become, and earn her sister’s respect would have been more compelling.

    2.       What I did like

    a.       Young Diana on Themyscira is a physical beast who performs epic physical feats effortlessly.  She has no knowledge of her powers, but her natural abilities justifies her cockiness.

    b.      Diana’s compassion, analytical and strategic thinking is on full display from the very beginning.  She’s always weighing the pro and cons and constantly trying to do what’s right.  I couldn’t wait to see what she would do next.

    c.       Diana discovering her powers was fantastic.  You get a sense of the wonder that she was experiencing as she learned new powers in the heat of battle.  When she noticed bullets were slowing down, you knew the bad guys were going to wish they took the day off!

    d.      Diana seeing, and hardly recognizing, her future self in battle armor with sword and shield on a battlefield, unknowing that she will become Wonder Woman.
