Publisher's Summary

A heavily damaged alien research vessel in the Andromeda galaxy is hurtling toward a planet. The aliens should not be there. They have been traveling through space and time, abducting apex predators and sticking them in virtual simulations for research. The problem is the virtual simulations are powering down, unleashing the specimens on the ship.

Dr. Albert Snowden and his niece, Emily, were abducted by the aliens. They are visited by a mysterious being named Evaran in the last minutes of the virtual simulation. He has decided to interfere in this timeline-changing event and rescue them.

Stopping the ship from crashing into the planet before getting to Evaran's ship is one issue. Navigating the apex predators on the loose is another. To make matters worse, Jerzan Graduul, infamous leader of the Bloodbore mercenary pack, has boarded the ship in search of salvage opportunities, and has noticed Evaran's ship. The hunt begins.

A quick Listen for Sci-Fi Fans!

A quick listen that was both creative and interesting with all the best sci-fi elements, alien abduction, creatures, spaceships and technology that's out of this world.

Michael Pauley's performance was fantastic. I've listened to several books narrated by Pauley, and believe this is some of his best work. While the narration started off slightly monotone, it quickly picked up and before you know it, Pauley pulled the listener in with his enthusiasm, tones and different alien voices.

Interesting Concept. Great New Series.

I was very unsure of what to expect with this book, but was pleasantly surprised. Although a little shorter than most of the books I usually get, it was still well on par with many of my favorite stories.
A small group of people are awakened to find that they have been abducted by a group of alien scientists. The last 2 years of their lives they have been living in simulated environments created by their minds. The ship, which suffered a major catastrophe, is now dead in space with many of the other specimens running loose on the ship. Some of the other aliens are sentient. Some of them are barely things we would call alive. The only thing for sure is that all of the alien creatures are dangerous... These scientists were on a mission to find the most successful species, with the most dangerous and lethal being at the top of the list.
The small group of humans, along with their advanced and highly-intelligent rescuer, must navigate the ships dangers to save their lives and prevent the ship from falling into the wrong hands.
I would definitely recommend this book to just about anyone who enjoys sci-fi. It was a good story line, had a good narration, and I'm looking forward to continuing the series.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, publisher, or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I was NOT required to write a positive review and this reflects my honest opinion of the work.

Given a fantastic imagination the writer took some really big jumps with the story. It was enjoyable.

Terrific story. Looking forward to book 2

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. It has a excellent Scifi story and kept me engaged. Any person with a scifi bone will find this a good story.

What other book might you compare The Awakening to and why?

The only other audio book I have listen to is Maximum Ride. It had a similar engagement but would put The Awakening higher in ratings. The story pulled me in more.

Which scene was your favorite?

Without giving too much away, the favorite scene was toward the end when the group split with the Crawl. You could feel the sadness between the characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I would listen on the way to work and found myself sitting there, in the parking lot, listening and not wanting to pause for work.

Fantastic and fresh sci-fi story

If you could sum up The Awakening in three words, what would they be?

Engaging, entertaining and unique.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Awakening?

It is difficult to give a favorite moment without spoiling the story. I will say there were a few times where interactions with other aliens did not go as expected and I really enjoyed those (IE - coming face to face with the kraul (sp?).

What about Michael Pauley’s performance did you like?

He did a fantastic job with the different voices for the characters and kept the tone and pacing spot on. He really helped to draw me in to the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Everything you thought you knew to be true is about to change.

Any additional comments?

I truly enjoyed this book and listened all in one sitting since I did not want to stop the story. It was very entertaining and a fresh concept.

Curious about the next book :)

They were plucked right off of the highway. An alien race abducted them, and put them in a visual simulation to make them feel they were living life normally. I have a minor case of conflicting feelings about this book. There was adventure and action, and a lot of the story was pretty awesome. Then there were portions that I found my thoughts drifting from the story. I had to rewind back several times to listen again. I feel like the pace might have been a bit off somehow. The narrator had a great voice, and really brought this book to life. I did enjoy listening to this audiobook. I had a few small issues with this story, but I would like to continue on with the next book. I'm very curious to see how the series will continue from this point.

Great Story Keeps You Wondering Whats Next

Where does The Awakening rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

High

What did you like best about this story?

The Awakening is a very imaginative exciting sci-fi book that I could not stop listening to it once I started. A handful of people are abducted by aliens but are in a deep sleep and think they are living their lives as normal, kinda Matrix-like.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The Whole Book

An alien ship full of predators. Yes us too!

What made the experience of listening to The Awakening the most enjoyable?

We are the ultimate predator on earth. Let's see how we fare against other predators in a massive enclosed space travelling lab experiment gone wrong. Cool. I loved the premise and the fight scenes. Very enjoyable.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Awakening?

It's a great roller coaster of action and a fun read. Lots of aliens from across the multi-verse, unleashed to run amok in an alien research vessel. Bring it on.

Have you listened to any of Michael Pauley’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No but I really enjoyed the energy and narration as a whole. Really good. Good pace, nice work on the characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did. I listened to it on a car journey. Which went much faster, or felt it as I wasn't speeding, thanks to this book!
