Publisher's Summary

Brandon Sanderson is one of the most significant fantasists to enter the field in a good many years. His ambitious, multi-volume epics (Mistborn, The Stormlight Archive) and his stellar continuation of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series have earned both critical acclaim and a substantial popular following. In Legion, a distinctly contemporary novella filled with suspense, humor, and an endless flow of invention, Sanderson reveals a startling new facet of his singular narrative talent, read by Audie Award-winning narrator Oliver Wyman.

Stephen Leeds, AKA 'Legion,' is a man whose unique mental condition allows him to generate a multitude of personae: hallucinatory entities with a wide variety of personal characteristics and a vast array of highly specialized skills. As the story begins, Leeds and his 'aspects' are drawn into the search for the missing Balubal Razon, inventor of a camera whose astonishing properties could alter our understanding of human history and change the very structure of society. The action ranges from the familiar environs of America to the ancient, divided city of Jerusalem. Along the way, Sanderson touches on a formidable assortment of complex questions: the nature of time, the mysteries of the human mind, the potential uses of technology, and the volatile connection between politics and faith. Resonant, intelligent, and thoroughly absorbing, Legion is a provocative entertainment from a writer of great originality and seemingly limitless gifts.

    "A Small Taste"

Stephen Leeds is a genius who has formed a unique way of coping with the masses of knowledge crowded into his brain. He's created 'aspects', each of whom has a complete personality and a separate set of skills. Some people call him a genius, some people call him insane, but no one can deny that he's extraordinary.

I love everything Brandon Sanderson has written, and Legion is no exception. Each new story or novel he publishes is astoundingly imaginative. This novella left me wanting more and I immediately picked up the sequel.

The idea of the aspects is clever and well written. I love that each one has their own mental disorder. It's easy to forget how intelligent Stephen is, he seems like a regular joe until his genius flashes out through the pages. The narration is consistent, the narrator performs subtle character voices and his voice fits well with the story.

I'd recommend this book as an introduction to Sanderson's work, you won't be disappointed.

    "Entertaining & Intriguing Short Story"

Very fun short story. Stephen is a fascinating character. I love how Sanderson deftly explores big questions in psychology, religion, philosophy and science all while taking you through an intriguing plot that keeps you invested until the end.

Would love to watch a televison show of this. It would be a wonderful and fresh addition to the "detectives with mental issues" genre (Monk, Sherlock, etc.).

Oliver Wyman does an excellent narration job, using different voices to differentiate the different aspects.

"I hope this becomes a series!"

I liked it even more the second listen. The main character's aspects are very colorful, and add a lot of variety to what is a great mystery.

    "Extremely Original "

Definitely original and entertaining. I love how Stephen's mind worked, and what he manages to accomplish with it. Enjoyed the personalities that were presented and their interactions with Stephen and each other. Loved, loved, loved the Camera. Could you imagine what would happen if it existed?!! The book was the perfect length in my opinion, and I hate short books. Will definitely be reading more Sanderson.

    "Interesting concept . . . . 😱"

    Not great, but not bad! A novel plot . . . 😱

5 stars is great (I rarely give this rating).
4 stars is good (given only to interesting and well-written books).
3 stars is OK (the usual listen I encounter on Audible).
2 stars is poor (and not worth the credit or the listen).
1 star is awful (and to be diss'ed and shunned and spread as thus through out the Audible Universe)!
    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 😱

    "New Favorite Character"

A friend recommended this to me, so I will turn around and do the same. This is a really intriguing detective novel. It has just enough of a sci-fi vibe to it to appeal to anyone and still give a lot of possibilities for other stories. If Sanderson wanted to break into the Mystery market, this would be the ticket to punch.

It's great the way he utilizes his attributes, as he calls them, to help with things when he actually is the one learning it all but that seems to be the only way he can process learning at such a speed. I know there is at least one more book with this character and I hope he keeps making them.

"Short and sweet - perfect for what it was"

I love Brandon Sanderson's writing and am usually a reader of his sprawling fantasy works. He didn't disappoint with this tiny mystery novel. This was an hour well spent. This series has made me a fan of mystery stories.
