Publisher's summary

From the author of The Iron Druid Chronicles comes a rollicking, all-new urban-fantasy adventure featuring Atticus O’Sullivan. Atticus has a history of messing with the gods, and in this original novella, he’ll have to outfox a deity at her own deadly cat-and-mouse game.

When he’s not vanquishing villainous gods or dodging demons, 2,000-year-old Druid Atticus O’Sullivan can be found behind the counter of Third Eye Books and Herbs in modern-day Tempe, Arizona, literally minding his own business. But when an evil sorcerer - and amateur shoplifter - snatches an ancient Egyptian tome of black magic, The Grimoire of the Lamb, Atticus is not sheepish about pursuing him to the ends of the earth...or at least to the Land of the Pharaohs.

Unfortunately Atticus already has enemies in Egypt - including cat goddess Bast, who wants her own book of mischief back from the Druid. In the streets of Cairo, she sends a feline phalanx after Atticus and his Irish wolfhound, Oberon. With fur still flying, Atticus must locate the sorcerer’s secret lair - where he will face killer crocodiles, spooky sarcophagi, and an ancient evil Egyptian who’s determined to order the sacrificial lamb special tonight.

Includes a bonus recording of the short story "Clan Rathskellar"!

Novella, Side Adventures Before Book 1

In this novella there are two stories and an excerpt for book 6 hunted (about 8 minutes). Both stories have a little of Oberon in them in case you are wondering. They take place before Granuaile as well.

The primary story involves an ancient book in Atticus's collection that leads him on a journey to Egypt. Here he must deal with Bast, God of cats, Sobek, God of crocodiles, evil wizards, and demons. This one was a lot of fun and anything that involves Oberon and cats is always a good fit.

Next, a short chapter presenting a preview of hunted is given. Then the last story is about clan Rathskeller, which takes place ten months before the book hounded. This one is about gnomes and fairies and is about fifty minutes long.

This may not be the best value for your buck on audible, but well worth it if you enjoy the series thus far. I liked this novella better than his last. Again, these are prequels to the current book and I hope Kevin Hearne in the future makes more of these side adventures.

The narration is always excellent. I don't think we could stand for having anyone else but Luke Daniels for the voice of Oberon.

**Do not read 0.5 first! Start at Book 1(Hounded)

What did you love best about Grimoire of the Lamb?

I finished the six books and decided to try the novellas in the series. I enjoyed this one. I liked getting a little glimps of what all went on in his life before the big adventure he is on now. Its a cute little read and it goes right along with what you would expect him to get caught up in

What about Luke Daniels’s performance did you like?

He makes the Series. Ill never be able to listen to him read another series now, he is Atticus.

Any additional comments?

******************* I understand that it is book 0,5 because it took place at the begining of his adventures, but I just want to maybe recomment changing that. It was a great story, but its really not anything compareable to book 1, and I think when people go to start the series they follow the books in order. Might just be me but I am not sure if 0.5 would have hooked me on the series if I had started with it. Book 1 was so much more in depth, and made you want to read more. But thats not to say I didnt enjoy it :)

Heads Up--There's a Second Story

"Grimoire of the Lamb" is only two hours long on this 3-hour item. I stopped in disappointment when "Lamb" ended and the narration turned to an excerpt from the soon-to-be-released sixth novel (which, like most of us who have become hard-core suckers for this series, I will probably buy in its entirety).

Then I read the review by Brian from Santa Cruz, who points out that if you skip over the 10 minutes or so of the outtake, there's a whole second story ("Clan Rathskellar") on the selection. So it's not as disappointing as I thought at first. Thanks, Brian!

Neither story is anything spectacular, just fun sidelights for us hard-core types getting our Luke Daniels as Atticus and Oberon fix.

Waste of Money

*That* was a total waste of money. The story isn't central to the ongoing events; it takes place in the past, probably about the time of the first book. The voice of the dog is always entertaining, but that didn't make it worth almost $10. Save yourself some money and buy it on Kindle for $3. It would be a quick read; I'm guessing about an hour. Shame on you, Audible, for charging so much for it.

Not quite what it advertised

When I ordered this book I thought "Hey 3 hours of Iron Druid is better than 10 hours of something less fun." What I got was closer to two hours of Iron Druid and an hour of a random chapter of an upcoming Iron Druid I will buy when it comes out.
If two hours of a book are worth a credit to you go for it and enjoy!

Very disappointed

Any additional comments?

I have been really enjoying this series so thought I would pick up the .5 prequel. I found it very disappointing.

The book started out well enough and then got bogged down into painfully detailed descriptions of what are supposed to be exciting chases and battles, detailed to the point of describing EVERY SINGLE SECOND. Every blow. Every "new bloom of pain." Every counter-blow. Every stagger. Every rising back up. Every counter move. Falling down again. Another pounce. Then another. Another blow. Another recovery. Plus every thought that occurs to him though the entire sequence.

Yes, it was just as boring as what I have described here. I suspect that it would have been exciting if filmed but this sounded like a director's blocking out of every bit of action. To be fair, it was not helped by Luke Daniels matter-of-fact delivery of the chase and/or fight scenes, but I believe the main fault was with the editor. They should have advised Hearne to cut it by at LEAST half.

The rest of the books are much better so I would advise just skipping over this one and going right to Book 1.

Nothing there

Very little of substance. Don't waste your time with this one. Zip, zap, and it is done.

good but wanted more

Ok so first off have to tell you this. Grimoire of the Lamb is the first store on the book which is about 2 hours, then you get a random chapter from the 6th book. THEN AFTER the chapter (which is about 10-12 minutes) another story, Clan Rathskeller, starts which is 45-50 minutes.

Why they choose to separate the stores with a random chapter is very strange and from the other reviews, confusing to many and those skip the 2nd story. Recommend you skip this, its not even the 1st chapter which even makes it make less sense.

Anyways Grimoire of the Lamb is a good story. I like the inclusion of different gods other than the Irish or Greek variety. Its a good story with a little bit of over the top action narration (from the author not the reader) that is ok but something that was probably a 5 minute scene takes place over what seems to be 10-15 minutes, even so its not THAT bad.

Clan Rathskeller is great too. I think this is more read like Hounded (the first book) which ties in nicely.

Overall satisfied with the stories but for the same price as the first three books it seems a little excessive. Should probably be about half the cost. I wish that Hearne would have just written these into its own full book. I understand his "9 book" reason but cmon SUPPLY AND DEMAND! Good stories, awesome Iron Druid fun. For a fan of the series, this will feed your need even if it is just for a little bit.

way too short

Any additional comments?

I've read the entire series and thoroughly enjoyed it. This story was good, but it is only two hours long. The last hour is a preview of another book in the series. I don't think that it was worth a credit. That's one person's opinion.

Love me some Atticus and Oberon

Would you consider the audio edition of Grimoire of the Lamb to be better than the print version?

Luke Daniels is Atticus and Oberon. I have all the books in print as well, BUT Mr. Daniels is the voice

Any additional comments?

I'm not a fan of this genre BUT can not wait for each book in the Iron Druid series. The Novellas are a great way to get the back story and to pass the time waiting for the newest book.Kevin Hearne has become our family and friend's favorite author. We rarely agree on books BUT the Iron Druid series makes us all join together to enjoy them!
