Publisher's summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of From a Drood to a Kill comes the next Secret Histories adventure.

There is a man who gets away with murder. A man who specializes in removing the problems from other people's lives by killing the people who cause those problems. He operates from the darkest shadows of the hidden world, coming and going unseen. No one knows who he is, just his nomme du muerte: Dr. DOA.

This demented doc has poisoned Eddie Drood. Whatever is coursing through his veins seems to be immune to magic cures and treatments. But that's not going to stop Eddie from finding the killer and whoever hired him - and giving them both a taste of their own medicine.

This is the first half of a two parter

Simon Green has a habit of ending his Drood books on a cliff hanger. this is the only series he does it on and I don't know why .

Phoned This One In

Maybe Simon R. Green is tired of the Drood series. This particular offering seems to have been phoned in. Many of the lines are essentially lifted from the other books verbatim. I'm a fan of Green's writing style. Of all of his various series, the Droods are my favorite, but while certain plot aspects were very unexpected, most of the book was a mish-mashing together of previous Drood stories. All of that being said, this was still an energetic tale full of action and mayhem. For fans, the story provides the expected action and excitement associated with the Droods, but as one listens, it's hard not to feel as though Green himself is over it all. Old fan of Green's or new, Dr. DOA is still worth the credit.

Truly Enjoyable

Any additional comments?

I am a fan of Simon R Green but this is the first book that of his I have listened to. I enjoy the British tongue-in-cheek humor and sarcasm. Having read most of his books, I always thought that they would be outstanding if done as an audio performance. I was not disappointed. Gideon Emery did an outstanding job reading this book. The story itself is not quite as well done as earlier books in the series. However, Mr. Emerys' reading more then makes up for this. I plan on buying other Green books read by him as I really enjoyed this.

Another great installment in the series!

Another great installment in the Drood family and the Secret Histories! The characters are great and it’s entertaining to listen to how they continue to grow.

Glad I stopped passing this up!

I love this series and I'm sad to hear it's coming to an end. This is my first audiobook of this series and I have to say I really enjoyed the narrator after passing on the book after a sample several times. Now I'll be getting the rest of the series on audible, excited that I've found a new narrator that I really enjoy in a series I've always loved.

Disappointing addition to the series

I have enjoyed all the prior Secret Histories books. SPOILER ALERT: Each of the books was complete in it's self and came to a satisfactory resolution. This book, however, fails to resolve the basic story line and ends on a cliff hanger. It is a disappointing addition to an outstanding series.

Good but not the best

It was a good listen but the plot barely went anywhere until the end. It was mostly a book of filler with a few plot points. Still fun, but definitely on the lower end of the series.

Could be better.

Formulaic writing followed by yet another cliffhanger ending. I personally find the cliffhanger ending’s annoying. I like the characters in the book, but I feel a bit like I’m reading same story over and over with each successive book starting with the last few.

Can't wait for the next one. Again!

I've been mesmerized by the Secret Histories series since I first picked up Deamons are forever. I finished it, went back and read Man with a Golden Torc and now I read them as they come. My favourite series ever. Hands down incredible story telling. And now the audio books are even more entertaining. I can't get enough.
